Can you send me your errlog.txt file? This should capture detailed error messages from the program, even if the program is failing to open.

If you're using Mac OS X, it should be located at one of these locations within your Home folder:

    Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/errlog.txt

    or:

    Library/Application Support/Moneydance/errlog.txt

If you have any trouble finding your Home Library folder, open Finder and select Go -> Go to Folder and type in:

    ~/Library

This should pull up your local Library folder.

If you're using Windows, it should be located at:

    C:/Users/(yourusername)/.moneydance/errlog.txt

If you're using Linux, it should be located at:

    /home/(yourusername)/.moneydance/errlog.txt

I went to the finder and found the Home Library and found application support but there was no Moneydance err log.txt

    Hello Larry,

Can you try to get to the home library folder using the other method I described? In the Finder, select Go -> Go to Folder from the menu bar and paste in:

    ~/Library

Then try to navigate to one of the two possible locations I mentioned.

Ethan that is what I did. I found application support there and there were probably 30-35 different things beyond application support but Moneydance was not one of them.

    Hi Larry,

That's really strange. Moneydance creates that folder for the settings file before the first launch. If it's not there, it would create it again immediately after you try to open the program. You mention Application Support, but did you also check that first directory I gave?

    Hi Larry,

You’re obviously struggling to find your errorlog.txt file.

Based on the notion that a picture is worth a thousand words….

Have done you a screen grab (find attached) on how to navigate to the file in question. Double click it to make it full size. Note the red arrow & follow the path in the status bar to errorlog.txt.

The only difference is that yours will probably not say user1 in the path, but your user name.

Hope this helps & that when you find your errorlog.txt it will tell Ethan something useful!

    Hi Larry,

I believe you've recently upgraded your operating system to Catalina.

Please note: we recommend running Moneydance 2019.3 (1880) on Catalina, as older versions may not be fully compatible.

This is available for download at this page.

If Moneydance 2017 was previously installed, your new version will register automatically.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have further questions or need any assistance.
