Quote and Exchange Rates

So I am switching to MD from Quicken. Mostly because of issues with Q handling multiple currencies and plus I must manually enter prices for non-Can/US securities. I am hoping that MD does not suffer from the # of stock symbols limitation of Q.

Testing out the extension right now with one stock: 4502.T on the Japanese market. That symbol pulls the correct stock and price when visiting Yahoo Finance.

Yet when I update prices I get a ridiculous price. Any suggestions for what I might be doing wrong?

With the Q & ER extension the most likely thing is that you have not set the exchange correctly, perhaps you have left it on Default, which with Yahoo Finance means the U.S. Markets.

I had left it on default.
I will see if changing that can fix things.
    thank you

    Hi dca

You might like to consider trying the extension Quote Loader under EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSION

See screenshot of Quote Loader returning prices for your security.

For information on the features of Quote Loader and how to use
    https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/investments/7595-quo...
Download the PDF’s attached to post 250 and have a read.

To get an overview take a look at the YouTube videos by using the links on page 1 and 2 of the PDF.

The Quick Start Video is intended to give a quick overview so the user can see if Quite loader looks like it could work for them. The Short Video expands the user’s knowledge giving more detail. The Full Video goes even further but may be too wordy for some.

The PDF reinforces what’s leaned in the videos, provides step by step instructions, a must read and provide answers on how to handle less obvious issues some users may come across.

Let us know how you get on or if you need help just post. If any securities return an error then post your base currency, the Ticker, full Security Name and last price you have and its traded currency or just post a screen shot of the Quote Loader windows after you click GET PRICES.

    Hope this helps.

Okay, I must admit that I am very confused.
I have three symbols CAKE261016C00055000 set to default exchange and USD, IMB set to London and GBP, and 4502.T Tokyo Stock Exchange and JPY.

None update with either Yahoo Finance or Alphavantage API.

Also my currency exchange rates are mostly showing 2022 as the date of last price update.
I have tried both Quotes and Exchange and Quote Loader. Q & E seems to do nothing when I click Update Now. In Quote Loader clicking "Get...." at least produces messages of action in the Console Messages, but, regretfully does not seem to have an effect on either exchange rates or stock prices.

One hopes that at some point this gets easier. I only have about 150-200 more symbols to get in before I can really use Moneydance!

All the symbols produce results when cut and pasted in Yahoo Finance (the option comes back with a delayed price hence I am trying Alpha.

    Hi dca

    Quote Loader.

The fact that the US Dollar in included in the Quote Loader Exchange Rate table make me wonder if your Moneydance Base Currency is set up correctly. I had assumed you base Currency would be US Dollars.
Can you confirm the Base Currency you are using in Moneydance.
TOOLS – CURRENCIES – Base Currency: xxxxx
And the Base Currency you want to use. This impacts how Quote Loader is set up.

The following assume you want a Base Currency of US Dollars.

For the Ticker 4502.T Traded on the Tokyo Exchange.
When the Source is Yahoo the T represent the Tokyo exchange. Setting the Exch Mod to TSE confuses Quote Loader. If you use 4502.T don’t set a Exch Mod. But better still set the Ticker as 4502 and Exch Mod to TSE. This way other Sources will be able to find the security.
For FT if you don’t set a Exch Mod the ticker would need to be 4502:TYO
Simpler to use base Ticker and set the Exch Mod, this way you can change the Source without the need to change the Ticker.
For Ticker CAKE261016C00055000 Traded on the set Source to Yahoo HD with no Exch Mod.
For Ticker IBM traded on the New York Stock Exchange set Source to Yahoo HD. No need to set Exch Mod.
Exch Mod’s are only normally needed when the same base Ticker is traded on more the one stock exchange and represents different securities.
See Screenshot. Moneydance Base currency is US Dollar. IBM and CAKE261016C00055000 Securities have been set up in US Dollars. 4502 Security has been set up in Japanese Yen. Moneydance does the exchange conversion based on exchange rate provided by Quote Loader.
You can choose to set up Securities traded in a foreign currency in the Base currency and Quote Loader will do the currency conversion. See page 8 of the PDF I directed you to in my previous post.

    Hi Derek,
I am using Euro as base currency and I want to use Euro as base currency.

I will read page 8 in detail before I comment again.

I am certain I will find another way to break Moneydance after I fix this or at least violate best practices.

    Hi dca

    Quote Loader.

I have modified my Moneydance data set so the Base Currency is in Euros with all the securities also set up to be stored in Euros by Quote Loader. With this setup the screenshot shows securities prices are returned in the stock exchanges Trading Currency, but New Prices and Last Prices are converted to Euros using the relevant exchange rate retrieved by Quote Loader.

After extensive work and figuring out how to read console window operation, I found that one option symbol needed the exchange modifier switched from it aparanent do not use setting to an arbitrary selection and then back to do not use exchange. Seems that the debug window was right, there was corrupt data.

Now it is 'functioning' - only ~192 symbols left to add....
