Expense recording
I believe that my problem is new as I have not encountered it during many years of use.
My investment account sends expense transactions that are unrelated to specific investments. These have always downloaded as transfers which do not provide my an opportunity to enter an expense category. In the past i have simply changed the transaction to Miscexp and then was able to enter the expense category. Recently, when I convert the transaction to Miscexp the security field insists on including a security name and when i save the transaction it is changed to Miscinc. Also, the amount of the transaction is deleted.
Have you any clue as to why this might be happening?

It is not be necessary to change the transactions of type Xfr to type MiscExp. You can simply leave the transactions as type Xfr and in the "Transfer" field on the transaction select an expense category. There is literally no difference between a transfer between accounts and entering an expense other than selecting an expense category on the other side of the transfer.
MiscExp transactions are specifically for expenses that are related to particular securities.

Thanks for the quick answer. I see that that works. Out of curiosity, has something changed recently?

No, I don't think anything has changed with regard to transactions of type MiscExp. As far back as I can remember MiscExp has always been for expenses related to a particular security.
