Why is there no feature to exchange stocks in Moneydance from one stock to another with no monetary exchange? This is a feature that is sorely missed due to cost base tracking.

I believe the developers feel there is more transparency by treating these as sell at cost basis then buy at cost basis. If an automated feature was created it would basically be doing this behind the scenes.

Thanks for the reply Tom, but doing it behind the scenes would perfectly
work with how every financial institution does it. Unless you explicitly
Sell a stock then Buy another stock, rather than an in kind exchange, it is
    shown as one single transaction.

One of the brokers I use shows it as a "shares out" then "shares in" separate transactions. I will put in a feature request ticket.

    Tom,

I believe the developers need to rethink their position on this issue.

Many company acquisition situations in my country use a stock for stock transaction, and for capital gains purposes you may be deemed to have purchased the new stock at the same time as your old, hence the stock swap is at the original purchases date. There is no sale and no purchase it is a stock swap on a defined basis.

Under the current situation you would have to divest all of your old stocks at the original dates and price, so lot by lot, and reenter new transactions at the same original dates for the replacement stock lot by lot.

Computers are supposed to make for less work, this method does not achieve that.

Thanks for adding that in Des, that is exactly the situation that I am in.
Had stock exchanged (even though it was a mutual fund) into another stock
and my cost basis is now all messed up.
