Stock prices

Hi,
I've been having a problem with my Stock prices for a while now. The issue is that the value in the History is almost always not the value that I entered..

I live in France and my default currency is Euro. However my stocks are priced in British Pounds. As stock prices fluctuate daily I have invented a stock 'Test Fund' to show the problem. Every day I enter the Current Price as £1 exactly, hit 'new' which transfers the value to the History. As you can see from the attached image the value transferred is NOT the £1 I entered. Sometimes it is a small difference < 1% and recently it has been in error by 18%.

Either, Im doing something wrong, or there is something wrong with whatever process the value goes through when moving from 'Current Price' to the History.

Your help would be appreciated.

Regards

I have read the document your automated system pointed me to. In my case it seems to say (not well written) that as my default currency is Euro and the stock price is GB£ then even though I enter the pice in £ the 'Price' Column in the History section will show the value in Euros.

Whilst this is roughly true for the entries on 1/12/2016 & 30/11/2016. for the other dates this is manifestly not true. The £/€ rate has gone low but never that low!!!

There is a bug where the security is held in MD in the base currency rather than the currency selected. I am not sure why the two days were so off. How are you updating the exchange rate?

    Hi Tom,

The exchange rate is updated using the extension "Quotes and Exchange Rates" I update the stock price manually.

Do you have a timescale for correcting the bug you mention?

    Hi again Tom,

Following from the above I looked at the €/£ exchange rate history and found some crazy values in there! After these are removed the stock history now looks believable.

I'll be happier if the stock history was stored in the currency it is entered as though,

    Hi Tom,

I have adopted the methodology of always updating the relevant exchange rates at the same time as entering new stock prices. This seems to work around the issue I was seeing.

I'm also having problems with my backups but I'll open a new ticket for that!

    Many thanks for your help
    Regards
    Ralph
