setting up investments with a share balance
I have switched from quickbooks. my investments have a share balance. I do not want to do buy and transfer. how do I enter the balances

Buy transactions are the only way to add shares, this sets up the cost basis of the shares. You do not necessarily need to do a transfer as you can set up an initial cash balance in the investment account to "fund" the buy transaction(s).

Some brokers allow for qif/qfx downloads of account transaction history. This can be imported into MD.
