Thanks

James Downeytag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/371783552015-11-07T16:34:30Z2015-11-07T16:34:32ZStock Split

Hi,

I am trying to do a stack split and it just doesn't work. It
doesn't revise the number of shares and the "New Price" window is
not relevant to a stock split. The shares split by the ratio and so
does the price.
This is a problem that a mature software shouldn't have. I've tried
every way I can think of. Maybe someone can point me how to do it.
The only way I can see it to edit the original purchase as if it
was the post-split price and shares so at least it could calculate
capital gains correctly.

Ben Btag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/371783552015-11-07T19:25:08Z2015-11-07T19:25:08ZStock Split

The bug still hasn't been fixed. I am sorry and still can't give
a timeline for when it will be. The split still doesn't show until
the program is closed and reopened.

The new price field is to adjust the current price field in
relation to the split. This may seem counter intuitive but some of
our users manually enter their investment transactions from
quarterly statements and this allows the current price field to be
set retroactive to the split for those who do not keep regular
price updates.

I just tried a split and sale afterwards and the cost basis was
correct. I admit the UI is not the most informative but the results
were as they should have been.

If this is not the case for you, if you could provide screen
shots of the cost basis report edited fore the split security and
the securities detail window, as well as let me know the version of
MD you are using I can try to figure out what went wrong.

have to enter the split and then close the program and reopen.
Seemed to work OK. Not pretty but it works.

Ben Btag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/371783552016-02-04T11:42:00Z2016-02-04T11:42:01ZStock Split

As a new user this problem just took 2 hours of my time wasted
trying to figure out what was going on before I reached the
conclusion that there was a problem - now confirmed in the
discussion here. I've got a lot of stock history to tidy up after
an import of 20 years data from Quicken 98. Having to stop and
restart the program to check every stock split will be a right
pain. Given this has been known for at least 6 months, is there a
plan to fix it? If not, why not? How often do bug fixes get
released? I haven't paid for Moneydance yet and am wondering if
there is a better option. The stock split functionality seems a bit
of a cludge. I would have expected an entry in the register for a
stock split and also the capability to have a name change. I can't
stick with Quicken because it's no longer supported in UK.

nospamtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/371783552016-02-07T23:16:42Z2016-02-07T23:16:42ZStock Split

It is still in the bug que. I admit the investment part of
Moneydance is a bit clunky. Part of the issue is the lead developer
wanted to keep the program as simple as possible. If you want to
change the name you simple have to go to would go to the securities
detail window for that security click the history button, click the
edit button next to the name and change the name in the edit
security window.
