Initial Transactions and Free shares

I have created all my accounts from 1 January 2014 and I would like to enter share transactions prior to this date. I have read and re-read the manual but cannot see how to enter these initial transactions. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Secondly I receive one free share for each share I buy, so I tried entering buy at £0.00 and that seemed to work. As expected Moneydance shows 10000 instead of 0.00, however I then noticed it takes the 10000 as the latest share value. Is there any way to add free shares?

How does this affect the cost basis, tax implications ( I am not versed on UK tax laws)? How are the free shares allocated, employer match, direct investment incentive? If you could provide details of the investment i could better advise.
