For those of you who use Hleofxquotes and my Security Price Loader it merges this into one easy to use extension.

It is one of a selection of extensions I have written to help me with Moneydance. I have made them available free.

I was wondering whether it might be a good idea to suggest (maybe via the PDF) that users of the new extension create an account at Yahoo.

That way when they [Yahoo] experience an uptick in traffic to there quotes servers, they can at least attribute it to new accounts.

My fear is that if they can't attribute the increased traffic, they may shut the whole thing down.

I do wish I had read it all through first, instead of following it step by step. I found the QUOTES IN BRITISH STERLING PENCE, ONETIME SETUP after I'd actioned the previous steps...
so had to edit my prices and then do the one time setup. Now it all works beautifully.

As I had had to in the stand alone programme, I had to change the security codes by adding a dot for Avivia (AV.) and BAE Systems (BAE.) otherwise I got a not found and a USD price for the US version of the shares.

JimRBtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-09-08T19:12:18Z2018-09-22T13:16:51ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

I am not support staff, just a user.

Hi JimRB

I am sorry you missed the QUOTES IN BRITISH STERLING PENCE, ONETIME SETUP.
In the Initial set-up step 6 page 4 “If any quotes are in British Sterling you MUST follow the step here.” I did put must in capitals bold and underlined.

Anyway, I am glad you got passed the problem and found the Quote Loader system an improvement and thanks for the positive feedback.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-09-08T19:55:46Z2018-09-22T13:16:51ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

I just installed everything following the directions in the PDF. It seemed to run just fine. I had earlier run the price update and noted the usual bug of mutual fund prices being for Thursday, not Friday when you run it on a Saturday.
The system provides an end to end solution, obtaining quotes from a choice of two sources and entering them into the relevant History window, all from a single window within Moneydance. The system can obtain Security prices, Exchange Rates, Market indices, Cryptocurrency Rates and prices for Cryptocurrency Investments. The system provides quotes from many stock exchanges, US, Canada, UK, Europe and Australia to name but a few. The process of obtaining quotes from the selected source is fast and error free.

Its brilliant of you to do all the work to provide this new quote loader system. Is this purely out of the goodness of your hearts? Very unusual....

I have downloaded it and installed and run it, and it solved all the stocks and particularly UK funds which did not work with Alpha Advantage. All the prices looked sensible in the New Price column in Quote loader so I clicked save Selected Values. HOWEVER all the UK stocks have gone wrong in my Moneydance valuation. (US and European and funds all OK). Done it twice...the first time the problem seemed to be that Moneydance had decided on a conversion rate of 0.6605 from British Sterling Pence to £. The 2nd time it has just produced various crazy prices for UK stocks. I have checked I followed your procedure correctly for establishing the new British Sterling Pence.
1) have you come across this problem? any suggestions?
2) in the summary in Moneydance where the stocks and prices are listed in the bottom right box, is it necessary to change all the Currency boxes from British Pound to British Sterling Pence ? (in the Currency/Security history box which comes up when you click on a Stock)

rodwhdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-09-11T16:43:50Z2018-09-22T13:16:50ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

In relation to the above, I am based in UK, so GBP is base currency, and I use a Mac.

rodwhdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-09-11T17:20:46Z2018-09-22T13:16:50ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

I am not support staff, just a user.

Hi rodwhd

Very strange.
First to answer your questions.
Point 2) no leave them in British Pounds.
Point 1) no I have not seen this problem. I am a UK investor all my prices are returned in Pounds or Pence except 2 which in USD.
I suggest to do a FILE – EXPORT BACKUP and then FILE – RESTORE FROM BACKUP so testing does not affect your real data set.
To try to analyse the problem can you post screen shots of
1) The Currency window for British Sterling Pence.
2) The quote loader window after get prices.
3) The quote loader window after save selected prices.
3) After Save Selected Prices the Security History window for a security that has GBP and one for GBX as indicated in the Quote Loader Trade Currency.

If this does not show up the problem we may need to instruct you how to post an error log.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-09-11T17:27:32Z2018-09-22T13:16:50ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

hi derek. By the way I am using MD 2017.7 (1657), is that the best one?
I went back to my backed up data and did the whole thing again - it has worked OK this time. However I am having a problem with the File- Export Back Up function. I backed up various versions as I went along (as was correcting various incorrect symbols for managed funds), but they have saved as Text Edit Documents (unusable) rather than as Moneydance archive files. See the attached screenshot. The only archive files that have worked are the ones where I (fortunately) had closed and re-opened Moneydance. [By the way I looked at the Currency/Security History screen for British Sterling Pence in the version I did yesterday. It had inserted a new entry on 11/9/2018 with a rate of 0.66059. Unfortunately i didn't take a screen shot. Only other entry was the 01/01/1900 one for 0.01.].

rodwhdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-09-12T09:49:34Z2018-09-22T13:16:49ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

Hi
I too am having the same issue with GBX. Having created it as a value of 0.01 as instructed, now something in MD has added a new value for this currency of 0.6xxx (can't remember the exact number as I've now manually corrected this back to 0.01) which caused the converted values to be incorrect.

Kevin is correct. I wrongly assumed you were using Yahoo as the source, try Yahoo that should give you a up to date price.

I inadvertently uninstalled Quote Loader from the Extensions menu.

Now when I download the latest 3 Quote Loader (build 2100) extensions, and use the grab and drop process, I get the error message "There was an error loading the extension file"

So I thought I would try to install from an earlier PDF (V1.1) and downloaded the 3 older Quote Loader extensions. But I get the same error message when grabbing and dropping.

When I have been testing this extension. I have been doing a fresh install on each occasion, so there is no expectation that a previous version exists.

You can always try the standard Moneydance install approach. Use the Manage extensions menu to install securityquoteload and Rhumba extensions. then run Rumba and drag and drop the hlexofxquotes.jar file onto the Rhumba window as directed, then restart Moneydance, I took this approach with the latest release without problem.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-09-21T05:42:54Z2018-09-22T13:16:47ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

Royce - I had the same loading issue and it was due to the downloaded file name not exactly matching the name of the extension. It’s easy to fix by removing any copies in your download folder and renaming the extension file.
One thing to make sure: the download file does not have any extra number or parenthesis in it.

In particular, they must be named as

securityquoteload.mxt

rhumba.mxt

Hi Royce

By now you should have read the advice from others. Downloading a file into a folder were the file already exists results, at least for windows users, in a number in brackets being added to the file name (2). Moneydance does not like the (2) hence the error. If you are still having problems just post.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-09-21T20:03:05Z2018-09-22T13:16:47ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

Thanks All,

Can Money Dance download the daily "close" prices with the push of a button? Is that part of MD at all or have I missed something?

Are MD support staff involved? If so what do they recommend?

When I started with MD I couldn't get the investment side to work at all so I kept track of investments on Fund Manager. I think it would be easier to adapt Fund Manager to Bank and credit cards accounts than figuring out how to deal with investments in MD.. I have no interest in dealing with builds and Rumba. I do appreciate that Third Parties have stepped up though.

jdleatag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-09-21T22:57:02Z2018-09-22T13:16:47ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

Hi jdlea,

Can Money Dance download the daily "close" prices with the push of a button?

The developers of the third-party quote loader have just completed upgrades that will allow the extension to run at startup or on a schedule.

Your other option is the Alphavantage route using Moneydance's Q&ER updater extension.

-Kevin N. (not a member of MD support)

-Kevin N.tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-09-21T23:18:05Z2018-09-22T13:16:47ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

I'm a fellow user.

Moneydance is general purpose Personal Financial Management software intended to work across the spectrum of your personal finances. Fund Manager is very specific software designed to work with your Investment Portfolio.

With Moneydance the downloading of price data for stocks and funds has always be done via the way of an extension. Not all users of the software have these types of investments so the basic software does not have the function out of the box. Some other vendors sell different capability in software at different price points. TiK does it via extensions.

The developers of Moneydance have made available their own extension for the download of pricing information and this is called the Quotes and Exchange Rates Extension. This extension makes use of a free data source that commercial developers can freely use.

Some users have found that the data available from this source does not cover their needs and out of this some individuals have got together and created the Quote Loader extension you see here.

It does not matter which extension you use they are all subject to upgrades being released, the Q & ER extension has been updated quite a few times this year and upgrades can be required to keep the system functioning.

With the Quote Loader this extension is pretty new and is still being developed and enhanced upon, so you are seeing frequent updates as new functionality is added, build numbers are akin to version numbers.

The extension comprises three parts, which is why you see three components being mentioned and discussed, two of the components have not changed in any recent release, securityquoteload is the extension being enhanced in recent releases. What you see as the jar file is the program that goes away and actually downloads the data, the rhumba extension is what glues this and the securityquoteload extension together.

Some of the installation problems you are seeing here is because Windows renames downloaded files that duplicate the name of an existing file that exists in the directory, rather than asking you if you want to replace or rename, it should not be a surprise that software does not like some of these strange file names or does not like names that do no match what it thinks the name should be.

The QL extension has a little more that needs to be installed over the Q & ER extension, but as someone that has installed it multiple times it is not an onerous install. Ultimately in operation, from the users perspective, there will be a lot of similarities, it does looks different and there are little differences in the way some things are done.

As a user you have the freedom to decide which approach to take and what works for you, You can go from a largely automated system right back to manual entry and at each level there are often multiple ways of doing it, it is all your choice.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-09-22T01:32:07Z2018-10-23T18:55:31ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

Hi Kevin,

A collaboration between the two software developers Mike Bray and Hleofxquotes.
PDF’s and Video by Derek Kent.

Download the attached PDF, use the links to download the Quote Loader system elements and follow the instructions on how to use. The PDF also contains a link to a tutorial on YouTube.

The link provides access to second PDF that covers the creation and importing of Cryptocurrencies and Market Indices into Moneydance.

You must also update to at least the latest released build of Moneydance 2017 at https://infinitekind.com/download-moneydance-personal-finance-software to ensure compatibility.

Please keep this thread to this subject on how to use Quote Loader system.
Please try this approach and if you find it useful please take the time to post comments and outline any problems you may find.
Please provide feedback on how well UK, Mainland Europe, USA, Canadian, Australian and other stocks and funds are covered.

I do however have a suggestion. I have a combination of stocks, shares and currencies set up in MD. I have just run MD and as expected the quote loader has run automatically (set to Daily) and updated the currencies and the share prices and set the next run date to tomorrow (29th). However, my stocks have not updated as the prices are not available for today until after COB (approx 5.30pm), so these still have a "Price Date" of yesterday (27th). Now, if I run MD again this evening, these prices will not update automatically because Quote loader now has a next run date of tomorrow. So, if I don't run MD until tomorrow evening, I will miss todays stock prices. I know I could run the quote loader manually this evening but that defeats the object.
Would it therefore be possible to enhance quote loader so that when it does it check to see if it needs to run today that it also checks to see if there are any items that have a "Price date" prior to the last run date, and if so then it runs again even though it has already run once that day so that these prices are updated?

SteveH42tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-09-28T11:55:30Z2018-09-28T11:55:30ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

I need to be careful with this sort of process, I don't want to get it into an endless loop.

What you can do is set the Next Run date back today and close and reopen MD. This will cause it to run again, so if you do it this evening it will capture the new prices.
There is a work around. You need to find the pseudocurrencies.dict file. On windows it is in the folder c:\{user}\.moneydance\fmodules\.rhumba.

Open it with notepad and add the following text just before the ]
, { "pseudo": "ZAc", "multiplier": 0.01, "replacement": "ZAR" }

Note: the comma before the { is required

Then save the file. I will add this in the next build.

Mike Bray (Quote Loader Author)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-10-04T13:17:44Z2018-10-04T13:17:46ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

Awesome, that worked, thank you very much

It relates to an investment denominated in dollars eg Medtronic (MDT:NYQ) which is priced in dollars. When I use Quotes Loader manually it downloads in Dollars and correctly loads the $ price into the Security in MD which is also denominated in dollars. However if I use the time/automatic download it seems to download the dollar price and divide by the $:£ exchange rate and then load this into the Security in MD in $. I am wondering if this is related to the GBX issue earlier. I attach a copy of my download - the right hand prices are the manual download after the automatic download on the left hand side (previous price). I am also getting the same problem with Euro pricing with Euro denominated Securities. Hopefully I am doing something silly. BTW I am also downloading the £:$ currency conversion in the same Quotes Loader but this does not cause and issue with a manual download. I've had a broadly similar problem with a $stock listed on the FT and held in a £ account SHIC ticker.

I added MDT:NYQ as a dollar security to a sterling investment account. I ran a manual update it returned $93.94. I then ran an automatic run (by changing the Next Run Date to 18/10/18 the time to 9:00 and restarting MD)/ It gave the same answer. Can I ask that you change the 'Next Run Date' on both Securities and Currencies to 18/10/18 and the time to 9:00 daily. Close MD and restart. That should make the automatic run to occur. Can you post the error log (errlog.txt).

Hi PaulF

I notice from your error log that you are running the latest build of securityquoteload.mxt but two builds of rhumba.mxt out of date. I can’t tell what build of hleOfxQuotes.jar you are running.
All the testing has been done with all three elements of the correct build numbers. I don’t know if this is creating the problem you are seeing but you never know. There was a short period when a faulty 2120 was posted on the download site so just to make certain you have the real latest build of 2120 download that and the other two files and install three again.

Hi Peter

Start the extension Quite Loader and under Quote Loader HELP set debug to Detailed, close the extension and MD and then reopen both and click get prices. Take a screen shot so we can see the ticker symbols. Click MD HELP and CONSOLE WINDOW and use COPY TO CLIPBOARD to copy the MD error log and then paste this it into a text editor and post the text file and screen shot in this thread. This will give Mike something to work on.

The issue is that Rhumba is returning the prices with a comma for a decimal point. Is your machine set to a country(local) where comma is the decimal point? It doesn't matter if MD is set to period(.) if your machine is set to comma(,) then this could happen. I will add a fix to overcome this and I have asked the Hleofxquotes author to address it within Rhumba.
This one seemed to have worked. I then put build 2122 back and set the date to 23rd but left the time at 09:00 and it also worked. I then put the date back to the 23rd again and this time put the time to 19:00 and it did not update.

SteveH42tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-10-24T12:57:18Z2018-10-24T12:57:18ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

Thanks Steve, looking at the code I see the anomaly. If the next run date is less than or equal to 'today' then it checks the time to run. If the time to run is later than 'now' it waits until the time to run until it will schedule a run.

So, if you miss a day it will not run straight away when you start MD, it will wait until the next scheduled time. This was not the original thoughts on the design, but it works. You can of course do a manual run.

What I might do is change it that if the next run is less than 'today' it will run anyway. Any thoughts?
That makes sense. I think it would be a good idea to make it run if the next run day is before today. The reason being that the stocks seem to get updated at around 17:30 which is why I have it set to run at 19:00. So if a day is missed, then running it first thing in the morning would update MD with yesterdays prices.

SteveH42tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-10-26T10:33:11Z2018-10-26T10:33:11ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

Hi - I am still having problems with the automatic download. I have updated to the latest version of Rhumba and hleofxquotes and am running 2120 of the priceloader. The automatic download seems to pick up the right price of Northrop Grumman (NOC:NYQ) and denominate it as USD. So far so good.- see copy of errlog, This seems to get divided by the USD/GBP exchange rate before being loaded into priceloader and then the security (see attached screenshot). FYI the investment is denominated in dollars but held in a £ Investment Account. FYI I have run manually and it works correctly - see errlog and security screenshot. Suggestions gratefully received.
Well there is nothing obvious. SO I have created build 2123. This now remembers the debug level.

Please down load it and install in the normal way.
Open up MD and Quote Loader
Go to the Help menu set the debug level to Detailed
Let Quote Loader run as normal with your stocks and currencies
If you still have a problem please upload the complete errlog.txt file.
You can turn the debug level back to Info or Off if nothing is wrong.

I am writing again to say THANK YOU once again to Mike, Derek, and all for their work on automating the quote loader. I have a simple demand -- updating quotes to a dozen or so U.S. mutual funds -- and it is being met nicely now by the MD extension. It's a mystery why MD support could not have accomplished this. And that makes me worry about the long-term viability of MD.

Leaving that aside, however, I want to report that the extension works fine on my MacBook running High Sierra 10.13.6 and using the Yahoo option. Thank you.
Babo

Babotag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-10-28T20:09:17Z2018-10-28T20:09:17ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

I'm a fellow user.

There are differences between what Mike and the team can do as individuals and what Moneydance can do as a corporate entity.

The Infinite Kind approached FT but were told that they do not have a license to redistribute the data they have via a channel and Moneydance is considered a channel, and of course receives money for the sale of the product, there is thus a good legal basis for taking action against TIK if they used the data. The quote loaded is provided free of any charge, no one receives any money for it so there is no commercial benefit. Moneydance is Personal financial management software, so it can be said that the Quote loader is being provided for free personal use, and the conditions of free use of the FT site is that it must be for personal usage.

Yahoo i.e .Verizon, basically told everyone to p**s off (a very short sighted decision in my view) and that they are not licensed to use the data feed. TIK complied with this in Moneydance by moving to Alpha Vantage (how good or bad they are is not relevant) So again there is no legal basis to go after TIK and keep the lawyers employed. There is no profit, or good PR, to be gained by going after individuals that receive nothing for the system either.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-11-10T19:01:35Z2018-11-10T19:01:35ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

Third-party Quote Loader System

The system provides an end to end solution, obtaining quotes from a choice of two sources and entering them into the relevant History window, all from a single window within Moneydance. The system can obtain Security prices, Exchange Rates, Market indices, Cryptocurrency Rates and prices for Cryptocurrency Investments. The system provides quotes from many stock exchanges, US, Canada, UK, Europe and Australia to name but a few. The process of obtaining quotes from the selected source is fast and error free.

I tried it for my securities (equities and mutual funds) and exchange rates, it works like a charm and loads fast! No more waiting 20-30 seconds per security to load with AlphaVantage. With 50+ securities what a time saver. Much appreciated and thanks for a great alternative extension!
Am trying to get this going with only moderate tech knowledge. Working from pdf guidance 5.1.
Fell at first hurdle as I don't understand "drag and drop into the Moneydance side bar".

My sidebar is a list of accounts!

Can you be more specific please?

Mark

mark.gu30tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-11-30T15:41:53Z2018-11-30T15:41:53ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

I am not support staff, just a user.

Hi Mark

It’s said a picture paints a thousand words or in this case a video. Use the link in the PDF page 1 to the YouTube Video to see Drag and Drop in action. All that it means is you highlight the file you want to install in you file finder/file explorer hold the left mouse key and drag the file to the Moneydance Side Bar (the side bar is the description Moneydance uses for the list of accounts, reports etc.) and drop it to copy it to Moneydance. If after this explanation and taking a look at the video this method does not work for you just post and I will describe an alternative approach.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-11-30T19:05:20Z2018-11-30T19:05:20ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

OK - so I was doing what your youtube clip is doing.
The difference is that in your clip the pointer is moving a rectangle with a file icon in it.
When I do it, I'm carrying a grey-shaded text box with the name and http address of the securityquoteload file (see my attachment for printscreen of the move)

I had successfully drag-dropped the relevant files into a folder using file explorer

Maybe there's a way of getting them into Moneydance from there

mark.gu30tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-11-30T20:44:13Z2018-11-30T20:44:13ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

I am not support staff, just a user.

Hi Mark your screen shot did not get attached. If you post was by email rather than a direct post on the site that can happen.
What operating system is your computer running, maybe there is an issue with drop and drag using the system you have.

The two files ending in “.mxt” can be installed as follows.
In Moneydance click on EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSIONS – ADD FROM FILE. Navigate and open each in turn. To install hleOfxQuotes.jar open rhumba under EXTENSIONS and with the “Install” tab selected Drag and Drop hleOfxQuotes.jar into the rhumba window. If this does not work as descried in the PDF post with your computer operating system and I will investigate further.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-11-30T20:56:11Z2018-11-30T20:56:11ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

I am not support staff, just a user.

Hi Mark

Thinking further when you went to the download site to obtain the three files did you use Drag and Drop to get them into your file explorer? If so, this is the problem.
On the download web site click first on securityquoteload.mxt and download it in the normal way. Do the same for the other two files. You only use Drag and Drop to install the file into Moneydance once they have been downloaded.

The problem with getting the extension from your site was my interpretation of the instructions.

It seemed to me that I could download by drag and dropping directly from your Downloads page into the sidebar of Moneydance. No good.

But once I’d downloaded into a folder on my machine first, it was then easy enough to drag & drop from my File Explorer folder into the sidebar of Moneydance.

All working – except for 7 corporate bond holdings and a US stock (these are help in 4 different accounts on my system).

65LH.L and 87PN.L are only available via FT, but they are recorded in GBX so I’ll have to fudge the Security characteristics to correct this (they are currently in GBP on my MD).

ICG3.L, IPF1.L, PHP1.L, PMO1.L and VO32.L do not load quote at all from either FT or Yahoo. These ticker symbols work fine on uk.finance.yahoo.com.

ACN on NYSE is a dollar-denominated security in my Moneydance, but the quote loader converts the dollar quote into GBP. How can I stop this?

Otherwise this is going to be much better than the previous system – in terms of speed, reliability, automation and less manual entry.

Well done to the team and thanks for helping me out.

Hi Mark, bit confused.

You state.
65LH.L and 87PN.L are only available via FT, but they are recorded in GBX so I’ll have to fudge the Security characteristics to correct this (they are currently in GBP on my MD).
See attachment Mark1. When I run these two securities in the Quote Loader they are retuned as GBP and entered into Moneydance as GBP. This is as it should be? If not explain further.

You state ICG3.L, IPF1.L, PHP1.L, PMO1.L and VO32.L ticker symbols work fine on uk.finance.yahoo.com.
Can you recheck, they don’t for me? For example, IPF.L (International Personal Finance plc) exists but not IPF1.L
If you can’t determine the correct ticker symbol can you post the associated full name of the security.

You state ACN on NYSE is a dollar-denominated security in my Moneydance, but the quote loader converts the dollar quote into GBP. How can I stop this?

I set up ANC as a Dollar security, see attachment Mark2 and provided you follow the section “Procedure if one or more Securities or Quotes are not in Moneydance’s Base Currency.” page 6 of the PDF the returned Dollar price WILL NOT be converted to GBP in the Quote Loader window (Mark1) or the associated security history window (Mark2). its only converted to GBP in the some reports and areas like the Security Detail window, see Mark2.

If this does not work for you please explain further perhaps with screen shots.

Hope this helps

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-12-01T17:39:03Z2018-12-01T17:39:05ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

FT-listed corp bonds: when you buy 50,000 of a bond at the nominal £1 listing (and repurchased at maturity for £1 each), the outlay is £50,000. The quotes in your Mark1.png are X 100 what they should be, possibly because these are often bought in chunks of 100 bonds. I should be able to fix this – only recently acquired these and not much historical data to re-work.

5 other corp bonds: You won’t find quotes for these bonds using the normal equity quote lookup on the uk.finance.yahoo.com page. But a little below that, there are two Add Symbol links for the Watchlist and Regular Viewing sections. Try those and you’ll see that these 5 corp bond tickers all work there.

ACN: I’ve attached my snapshot of the situation. I manually corrected the 30/11 historical price to $164.52, but it was originally a GBP figure (see 30/11 high-low prices on the same row which are still the GBP figures). But the Current Price box above this came through correctly to 6-decimal accuracy.

My situation is slightly different from your examples on page 6. MD base currency GBP, MD security currency USD, quote USD. Both your examples have the MD security currency as GBP and so the conversions work.

I could fix this by changing the MD security currency to GBP for this line of stock, but I have 18 years of historical data and transaction data in USD which I don’t want to lose!

Mark Davies at Churchlands Farm

mark.gu30tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-12-01T19:00:51Z2018-12-01T19:00:51ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi Mark

Looks like you have a fix for the first two bonds.

For the 5 other corp bonds can you provide the Yahoo web address so I can see what you are seeing?

ACN is covered by case A on page 6 of the PDF. In the case A example MD base currency GBP, MD security currency EUR, quote EUR. Only difference is in the PDF the security and quote are EURO instead of USD.
Can you confirm as outlined in steps a. b. & c. you obtained and save the USD exchange rate of 1.2757 and then followed steps d. f. & g. so that the USD value of the ACN price is saved in the history windows current and dated Price boxes.
If the data for a given day already exist in the history window unexpected results can occur.
Try this.
In the ACN history window highlight the data for the 30/11/2018 and click REMOVE then follow steps a. to g. again.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-12-02T08:51:13Z2018-12-02T08:51:13ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

Third-party Quote Loader System

I've been trialing Moneydance for five or six days and found this extension a couple days ago after being frustrated with the Moneydance included Alpha. Alpha is seriously slow and I never could figure out how to get the NASDAQ Composite. Thank you for putting in the time and effort with this extension. The core function of quote retrieval is working well for me, but (always a but eh?) I have run across a couple bugs.

The first bug has to do with how the extension affects the Moneydance display in Kubuntu 18.04. I'm getting these little right pointing black triangles in the menu bar. Start Moneydance, click Extensions > Quote Loader. The Quote Loader window opens. Click the Close button on Quote Loader. Now click Extensions > Quote Loader and the triangles appear. The triangles remain until I close & reopen Moneydance. I'm attaching a screen capture.

Bug #2 has to do with incorrect naming and location of the extension's configuration files in Kubuntu. This results in settings failing to export with Moneydance File > Export Backup and in Windows 10 produces Error: 0x800401E5 No object for moniker when trying to copy .moneydance financial info to a thumb drive from Windows. Windows doesn't tolerate "\" in file names.

My Moneydance use and install are not average user. Above I mentioned both Kubuntu 18.04 and Windows 10. I dual boot. If I'm in Kubuntu and want to enter a transaction, I don't want to reboot to Windows and back. Same thing if I'm in Windows. So Moneydane is installed in both Windows 10 and in Kubuntu on my laptop. These are local install, not via network. Both versions were installed in their respective default directories. The kicker is financial file location.

Moneydance Windows accesses financial files as:
D:\JFK-My Money\2018Tax.moneydance\Documents\JFK 2018.moneydance
The two files MRBPreferences.dict and securityquoteload.bpam2 saved here are fine.

Moneydance Linux accesses the same financial files as:
/mnt/JFK-Data/JFK-My Money/2018Tax/.moneydance/Documents/JFK 2018.moneydance

In Kubuntu they end up in:
/mnt/JFK-Data/JFK-My Money/2018Tax/.moneydance/Documents with the files saved in that directory as JFK 2018.moneydance\MRBPreferences.dict and JFK 2018.moneydance\securityquoteload.bpam2 respectively.

Assuming you choose to work on this, might I suggest having different configuration file names for Windows and Linux? Put them in the proper place for Moneydance Export and without the "\". My reasoning for OS specific files has to do with screen scaling and readability, column with and font size. I have resolution at 1920 x 1080 in both Kubuntu and Windows. Scaling in Windows is 125%. Kubuntu has 1.2 and 1.3; no 125% or 1.25. Column widths in Quote Loader are set slightly different in Kubuntu vs. Windows.

One final observation about the instructional pdf for using Quote Loader to get indices quotes. I didn't see the need to create a "Market Indices" account and buy shares (using some of the trial transactions). Just use the Moneydance built-in Tools > Securities to add .DOW or .NASDAQ and enter the correct symbol. In Quote Loader tick the "Include zero accounts?" box and Save Parameters.

Thank You,

Jesse

moneydancequotes01tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-12-15T09:17:29Z2018-12-15T09:17:29ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

I am not support staff, just a user.

Hi Jesse

The first thing to state is I am a windows 7 & 10 user, two computers. I don’t have any experience with Mac or Linux. The two developers of Quote Loader, one uses Mac the other Mac and windows, not sure if they have Linux experience.

That in my view would be a supported configuration.

Now you might get away with the configuration if you only mounted it from the /document Level, but mounting it at the .moneydance level I see as a problem because data like config.dic, loaded modules etc should be considered to be local data i.e. linked to the OS in this case. Mounting at the Document level is not something I believe Moneydance would have tested however so I would not be expecting a tick of approval.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-12-15T10:33:44Z2018-12-15T10:33:44ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

Your approach Tools > Securities to add .DOW or .NASDAQ and enter the correct symbol and in Quote Loader tick the "Include zero accounts?" box and Save Parameters is fine.
Hello,

D:\JFK-My Money\2018Tax\.moneydance\Documents\JFK 2018.moneydance
The two files MRBPreferences.dict and securityquoteload.bpam2 saved here are fine.

Moneydance Linux accesses the same financial files as:
/mnt/JFK-Data/JFK-My Money/2018Tax/.moneydance/Documents/JFK 2018.moneydance

In Kubuntu they end up in:
/mnt/JFK-Data/JFK-My Money/2018Tax/.moneydance/Documents
with the files saved in that directory as JFK 2018.moneydance\MRBPreferences.dict and JFK 2018.moneydance\securityquoteload.bpam2 respectively.

Thank You,

Jesse

Yes, same data files at different times and different operating systems on same laptop. I've been doing something similar with Quicken for quite some time. I'll use Virtualbox and a Windows 10 VM when in Kubuntu. It's two Quicken installs; one in Windows Home and second install in the VM which is Windows 10 Pro "upgraded" from Windows 7 Ultimate. Both access the same data. In native Windows the Quicken data is D:\JFK-Data\JFK-My Money\2018Tax\My Money 2018.QDF and from the VM the data is in a shared folder /mnt/JFK-Data/JFK-My Money/2018Tax/My Money 2018.QDF.

It doesn't seem logical to me to have duplicate data files on the same machine. In my search to replace Quicken I've eliminated KMyMoney as it does not support attaching receipts to transactions. I was about to give up on Moneydance when the Alpha extension wouldn't retrieve the NASDAQ Composite. Then I stumbled upon this Quote Loader work-in-progress. I can use it knowing how it behaves on my system. Hopefully what I see will help Mike et al. get it behaving well in Linux.

I believe you're correct on Bug #1 not being a Quote Loader issue. In Steve's note he pointed out another way he can get the triangles. He jogged my memory and I do recall seeing them in some other program in a previous Kubuntu version. That was maybe 4 years ago on a different laptop. Memory is a little foggy, but I think the triangles went away when I switched video drivers from those included with Kubuntu to proprietary. I'm attaching errlog.txt which is Linux and errlog_win.txt. Check the Loading dataset line. What may be happening is in Linux the files are written with a backslash where a forward slash should be.

Hi Jesse

On first look bug #1 is not something that Quote Loader can affect. I do not touch the main menu nor the graphic look and feel. Please can you have a look at the errorlog to see if there is an exception listed. You sometimes get strange behaviour when an exception occurs.

On bug #2 as dwg has stated MD thinks it is the only app accessing the files. Your configuration is unusual and I am sure it will not have been tested. As far as the parameter files are concerned. When the data held in the files is pertinent to the open dataset I store the data in the dataset folder so when you backup the dataset the parameters are backed up with it.

With Quote Loader we also have some installation specific files that contain information for all datasets. These files are stored in the .moneydance/fmodules/.rhumba folder.

As Java is meant to be agnostic to the operating system being used I rely on Moneydance to tell me two things, The folder for the dataset and the folder for moneydance. Moneydance takes care of where they are in the folder heirarchy.

Hi Jesse

Thanks for the note. I can see where the issue is and it should be easily fixed. It is many years since I have used any variation of Unix let alone programmed for it. I will make the change to the file path and test on Windows and OSX. If you could test it on Linux that would be very useful. I will let you know when it has been uploaded.

Hi Mike,

I believe you're correct on Bug #1 not being a Quote Loader issue. In Steve's note he pointed out another way he can get the triangles. He jogged my memory and I do recall seeing them in some other program in a previous Kubuntu version. That was maybe 4 years ago on a different laptop. Memory is a little foggy, but I think the triangles went away when I switched video drivers from those included with Kubuntu to proprietary. The old laptop had AMD video and AMD had their own drivers. The current laptop has Intel video and no proprietary driver download to try.

There was an error in the log about MD not loading properties for theme custom. In trialing MD I had not changed from the default. So I made a custom theme (changed one color). The error went away and MD loaded the custom theme. There was no change in Quote Loader and the black triangles.

Bug #2 is, I believe, truly a bug in where or how Quote Loader saves its info. To avoid any Windows confusion I uninstalled the MD Windows version after exporting data to thumb drive. I booted Kubuntu and put my data in the standard Linux install directory, not accessing data in /mnt on separate data drive. I renamed the directory where the data previously was. In MD preferences I unchecked the Separate backup folder option. I deleted the newly created .moneydance on the data drive. I unmounted the data drive. Now there was nothing left (hopefully) but standard Linux install for MD.

If you want to "store the data in the dataset folder so when you backup the dataset the parameters are backed up with it," that's not happening in Kubuntu 18.04 LTS. Please refer to the two screenshots. The first is where you're wanting the files to be. The second is where or how they actually end up written. I tried replacing the space in the dataset name with an underscore with no change.

It looks like the build 2125 files are being written where they belong. I tried three different ways - regular Linux, dual booting Linux for accessing data on the /mnt location, and booting Windows. And the files are being read from where they are now written.

In regular Linux with build 2124 the datafolder did not contain the configuration files. The previous Quote Loader build was writing to the Documents folder and naming them "datafolder\securityquoteload.bpam2" and "datafolder\MRBPreferences.dict". I did not lose any settings. I just renamed the files that were previously written in Documents and moved them where they belonged. As you said the OSx file system is based on UNIX, OSx users build 2124 preferences might also be in their Documents directory with a backslash name similar to mine.

I see Quote Loader is noting column width in MRBPreferences.dict. I also see the columns can be re-ordered. Column order is not being saved to MRBPreferences.dict. Is Quote Loader currently supposed to be saving the column order or is that for future development?

A lot changed under the bonnet of 2019 including a move from java 1.8.0_162 to java 11.0.1 and how 2019 handle non-base currency securities has meant changes to the Quote Loader system.
I recently added a security (Fidelity Bond Index; FXNAX) that shows up at the top of the list in the Quote Loader interface. However, when I click the button to update prices, the price of this particular security is the last one to download/populate. Fwiw, I use YahoO! as the source for all quotes.

Said another way, I have 9 total securities listed. When I update prices, they update (switch from yellow to green) in the order in which they are listed from #2 to #9, and then #1 loads last.

This doesn't have any effect on the performance of the Quote Loader, it's just a curious anomaly. It seems that the most recently added securities update last, regardless of where they appear in the (alphabetical) list. But it's not clear to me how the Quote Loader keeps track or makes this determination.

exigenttag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-12-28T20:48:42Z2018-12-28T20:48:42ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

The QL tool is pulling information on what it needs to download from your data set, so I suspect it is the order of the stored securities in the data set that determines the download order.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-12-29T22:48:21Z2018-12-29T22:48:21ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

The quotes seem to be retrieved in save order if using one site. Just to check I set everything to Do not load and saved parameters. I then set quotes 1 and 3 through 6 to Yahoo and saved parameters. Finally I set quote 2 to FT and saved parameters.
Although last saved, the quote from FT loaded first. So there's a little alphabetical order too. It looks to me like save order by site. FT retrieved in save order, then Yahoo in save order.
If you want all to load top to bottom AND you use only one site for retrieval - Start QL; change all to Do not load; Save Parameters. Now starting with quote 1, sequentially change the retrieval site and Save Parameters. Reverse procedure if you want to load bottom to top.
There's an issue with reading QL column headings (Select, Ticker, etc.) in Kubuntu 1804 LTS, QL 2125, MD beta 2127. QL seems to not be detecting background color and changing font color appropriately; maybe not detecting color scheme. The problem was also in beta 2126. Screen capture attached.
Hi Jesse

You should not be running Quote Loader 2125 in MD 2019 beta.
Please take another look at post 220 in this thread. Other elements are or will be of different builds for 2017 and 2019.
Mike Bray has been working on improving the colour contrast in 2019 and as a result securityquoteload.mx for 2019 is 3002 not 3001 as stated in post 220.
Bottom line the two sets of downloads are not interchangeable. Use the correct download as specified in the PDF.
I am certain Mike will be interested to know if 3002 in 2019 fixes the issue you have seem on Linux.
Thanks for the feedback.

Hope this helps

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862018-12-30T10:12:46Z2018-12-30T10:12:46ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

As Derek says using build 2125 on Moneydance 2019 will create incorrect prices.
Update
For 2019 improve colour contrast, text background, in Quote Loader window for custom themes.

Until 2019 beta is replaced by a stable release don’t replace 2017. You should only test on a separate computer not synced to your primary computer. If the separate computer has a copy of 2017 uninstall it before installing 2019. Mike Bray has created a useful wiki page for Windows users see https://bitbucket.org/mikerb/moneydance-2019/wiki/Windows%20Install...

WARNING use the correct set of quote loader elements for the version of moneydance you are running or run the risk of corrupting your data set. Don’t use 2017 build element in 2019 or vice versa.

I have it set to run automatically each day the first time Moneydance starts. It's quick and accurate, where the other one was slow and would sometimes miss updating some quotes.

It's a lot easier to install than the lengthy documentation may lead you to believe.

I am using it only for US market quotes, so I can't speak for how well it works for non-US markets or currency exchange rates.

Alantag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862019-03-07T16:58:23Z2019-03-07T16:58:23ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi Alan

Thanks for talking the time to report on how well Quote Loader works for.
The team will appreciate your comments.
Remember if you ever upgrade to Moneydance 2019 then there is a Quote Loader version waiting for you to install.

Have Fun.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862019-03-14T08:46:10Z2019-03-14T08:46:11ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

This is working awesomely thank you very much.
Would it be possible when it pulls the prices that you have a column showing the increase or decrease from the previous price, as well as a total of all the movements at the bottom?

Terrytag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862019-03-15T10:04:27Z2019-03-15T10:04:27ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

I am not support staff, just a user.

Terry thank for your comments.
Its unlikely any new features will be added to the 2017 version of Quote Loader other than bug fixes.
Any enhancements will appear in the 2019 version.
Although your requests may fall outside the scope of the Quote Loaders core purpose.

Thanks for taking time to post your comments.

I can't find the YouTube video and Kindle won't open the PDF hypertext. I've searched for all flavors of Moneydance and can only find rich dudes.... actually dancing.

Can you give me a link here or search phrase?

This could be the deal breaker for me because the provided extension doesn't work. Takes way too long and any successful quotes come in with a 0.00 price because I only in mutual funds... Big John Bogle fan here.

Thanks

BobCtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862019-04-10T16:24:15Z2019-04-10T16:24:15ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

I am not support staff, just a user.

Hi Bod

To check I just downloaded the PDF in post 248
It open for me and all other user in this thread.
I use Adobe Acrobat Reader DC V2019.010.20099 but any PDF reader should work.
My browser Edge in windows will also open it directly.
On page 1 is the link to the YouTube video, I checked that and it works. The video is unlisted that why you can’t find it using a search engine.

The thread you are reading is Quote loader for 2017.
There is another thread for 2019, see https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/investments/4039-quo...
A different version of Quote Loader with its own PDF and video.
Not sure if you will be using 2017 or 2019 whichever if you still can’t open the PDF I can post the link to which ever video you want to watch.

Hope this helps

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/460376862019-04-14T15:02:03Z2019-04-14T15:02:06ZThird-party Quote Loader System for 2017

Just wanted to say "thank you"! Hi fjinva

Thanks for taking the time to post.
Glad the Quote Loader team were able to help.

I am currently running MD 2017 (I don't trust the qif importer on 2019 yet) and the following

Quoteloader 2126

Rhumba 1036

Hlefxquotes 226

I cannot tell if that is the most recent versions. Could you advise?

It seems to work fine but I do like to keep everything up to date

Many thanks

For 2017 these are the latest builds
securityquoteload.mxt –------2017 Build 2127
rhumba.mxt –-------------------2017 Build 1036
hleOfxQuotes.jar –------------2017 Build 226

Looking that your list the only element to be updated is securityquoteload.mxt Updated to build 2127 on January 17th to include the ability to export the data obtained by the Quote Loader in a CSV file format.

The changes since then relate to simplifying the installation method by the use of the Quote Loader installer as described in a new PDF 6.4 and a new YouTube video V6.0 the link to which can be found on page 1 of the PDF, see post 248.

Out of interest if you are already established using 2017 then what are your concerns relating to 2019 regards it’s QIF importer? Are you importing QIF files from your bank?

When you do move to 2019 there is a completely new set of Quote Loader elements plus a new MD installer to make installation and updating even easier.

see https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/investments/4039-quo...
