    Hi rodwhd
Look like the issue you were experiencing was due to a conflict with the Quotes and Rates Updater.

Uninstall the Quates and Rates Updater to Prevent Conflicts!! And Update to the latest builds and you should be OK.

As for incorrect naming of backups it sounds like a Mac issue. I am a windows user so can’t help. Start a new thread and a Mac user should be able to help.

After not receiving any new quotes from the Alphavantage Q&ER extension for the last 8 days, I finally plucked up the courage to attempt to install the Quote Loader extension. I had a couple of issues, but managed to resolve them using the online Help facility.
Quote Loader is now working great and I am able to update prices from the New Zealand Exchange.
    I am using 2017.8 (1691) on Windows 10.
    Thanks guys

The system can obtain Security prices, Exchange Rates, Market indices, Cryptocurrency Rates and prices for Cryptocurrency Investments. The system provides quotes from many stock exchanges, US, Canada, UK, Europe and Australia to name but a few. The process of obtaining quotes from the selected source is fast and error free.

Hello all. I am posting simply to report that I've had smooth sailing after installing the quote loader and using it for a couple of weeks now. Here are a couple details:

I am running Quote Loader 2059 with Rhumba 1034 and hleofxquotes 225 on a MacBook Air running OS High Sierra version 10.13.6. My portfolio only includes U.S. mutual funds and I am downloading the quotes from Yahoo.

That's it for now, except to say thank you once again to the developers. Excellent work!

    Sincerely,

    RB

This is working well for me with one minor exception.  For T Rowe Price
Personal Strategy Income PRSIX it gets a price as of trade date
11/26/2010 as the new price on the current date.  All the rest seem to
be just fine.    That I can simply correct this entry is helpful rather
than relying only on the software for updates.  I don't understand why
it can't find the correct current price, which it does for other
    TRowePrice funds.

    Thanks,
    Dave

Kevin is correct. I wrongly assumed you were using Yahoo as the source, try Yahoo that should give you a up to date price.
FT does not seem to be updating that security.

Also keep up to date with the new build release see post 68 at http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/investments/3771-third-par...

I have Quote Loader 2016, Rhumba 1034 and hleofxquotes 225 installed and working well.
How do I update to the latest Quote Loader build 2100?
Do I uninstall via the Manage Extensions function, and then reinstall via the same function?
Or do I uninstall via the manage Extensions function, and then reinstall as a new install via the instructions in the PDF?
    Please advise

As per instructions from bottom of page 3 of the PDF.

"Note: Use the Grab and Drop process outlined above to update any element of the system. No need to uninstall the old build first."

The new build will overwrite the old build, its all you need to do.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks Derek.

I inadvertently uninstalled Quote Loader from the Extensions menu.

Now when I download the latest 3 Quote Loader (build 2100) extensions, and use the grab and drop process, I get the error message "There was an error loading the extension file"

So I thought I would try to install from an earlier PDF (V1.1) and downloaded the 3 older Quote Loader extensions. But I get the same error message when grabbing and dropping.

I am surmising that the latest versions are expecting to overwrite an earlier version, and the older versions have been rendered obsolete.

Is there any way I can recover and download the latest build 2100?

    Help would be appreciated

When I have been testing this extension. I have been doing a fresh install on each occasion, so there is no expectation that a previous version exists.

You can always try the standard Moneydance install approach. Use the Manage extensions menu to install securityquoteload and Rhumba extensions. then run Rumba and drag and drop the hlexofxquotes.jar file onto the Rhumba window as directed, then restart Moneydance, I took this approach with the latest release without problem.

Royce - I had the same loading issue and it was due to the downloaded file name not exactly matching the name of the extension. It’s easy to fix by removing any copies in your download folder and renaming the extension file. See earlier in this thread for details.

One thing to make sure: the download file does not have any extra number or parenthesis in it.

In particular, they must be named as

    • securityquoteload.mxt
    • rhumba.mxt

    Hi Royce

By now you should have read the advice from others. Downloading a file into a folder were the file already exists results, at least for windows users, in a number in brackets being added to the file name (2). Moneydance does not like the (2) hence the error. If you are still having problems just post.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks All,

Yes, the problem was the addition of brackets to the file name, and easily fixed.

    All good now.

Frankly, I am confused with these third party functions and file imports. Can Money Dance download the daily "close" prices with the push of a button? Is that part of MD at all or have I missed something?

Are MD support staff involved? If so what do they recommend?

When I started with MD I couldn't get the investment side to work at all so I kept track of investments on Fund Manager. I think it would be easier to adapt Fund Manager to Bank and credit cards accounts than figuring out how to deal with investments in MD.. I have no interest in dealing with builds and Rumba. I do appreciate that Third Parties have stepped up though.

    Hi jdlea,

Can Money Dance download the daily "close" prices with the push of a button?

The developers of the third-party quote loader have just completed upgrades that will allow the extension to run at startup or on a schedule.

Your other option is the Alphavantage route using Moneydance's Q&ER updater extension.

    I'm a fellow user.

Moneydance is general purpose Personal Financial Management software intended to work across the spectrum of your personal finances. Fund Manager is very specific software designed to work with your Investment Portfolio.

With Moneydance the downloading of price data for stocks and funds has always be done via the way of an extension. Not all users of the software have these types of investments so the basic software does not have the function out of the box. Some other vendors sell different capability in software at different price points. TiK does it via extensions.

The developers of Moneydance have made available their own extension for the download of pricing information and this is called the Quotes and Exchange Rates Extension. This extension makes use of a free data source that commercial developers can freely use.

Some users have found that the data available from this source does not cover their needs and out of this some individuals have got together and created the Quote Loader extension you see here.

It does not matter which extension you use they are all subject to upgrades being released, the Q & ER extension has been updated quite a few times this year and upgrades can be required to keep the system functioning.

With the Quote Loader this extension is pretty new and is still being developed and enhanced upon, so you are seeing frequent updates as new functionality is added, build numbers are akin to version numbers.

The extension comprises three parts, which is why you see three components being mentioned and discussed, two of the components have not changed in any recent release, securityquoteload is the extension being enhanced in recent releases. What you see as the jar file is the program that goes away and actually downloads the data, the rhumba extension is what glues this and the securityquoteload extension together.

Some of the installation problems you are seeing here is because Windows renames downloaded files that duplicate the name of an existing file that exists in the directory, rather than asking you if you want to replace or rename, it should not be a surprise that software does not like some of these strange file names or does not like names that do no match what it thinks the name should be.

The QL extension has a little more that needs to be installed over the Q & ER extension, but as someone that has installed it multiple times it is not an onerous install. Ultimately in operation, from the users perspective, there will be a lot of similarities, it does looks different and there are little differences in the way some things are done.

As a user you have the freedom to decide which approach to take and what works for you, You can go from a largely automated system right back to manual entry and at each level there are often multiple ways of doing it, it is all your choice.

I cannot see anywhere in the extensions which enable users to run Quote Loader at start up or on a schedule.

Can you point me to this feature.
