When I enter a buy on an investment account it does not debit the funds from the bank register, which then means that the account is overvalued in the portfolio view as it show the value of the shares purchased and the the value of the cash used to purchase them. Funds transferred to the investment account from my bank account to the will credit the bank register and also show in the main register. The buy transaction will debit the main register but not the bank register.

I hope this makes sense.

tigs99tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/462529002018-10-13T17:41:01Z2018-10-13T17:41:01ZBuy on investment accounts not debiting the bank register

just a user,

You need to select BuyXfr as the action and your bank account in the "Transfer" field.
Of course date, description, security as bought

mhoggietag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/462529002018-10-14T06:16:36Z2018-10-14T06:16:37ZBuy on investment accounts not debiting the bank register

Hi,

Sorry, I don’t think I wrote this clearly enough. I am am tank about the bank register view in the Investment Account not in my Bank Account. the money stays in the Investment account.

I also need to correct myself slightly. The amounts are being debited forth bank account view, bu the transactions themselves are not showing.

Tigs

tigs99tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/462529002018-10-14T10:04:45Z2018-10-14T10:04:45ZBuy on investment accounts not debiting the bank register

I'm a fellow user.

The Bank register shows transactions that are valid in that type of register. The Investment register shows transactions that are valid in that sort of register, some types of transactions like standard transfers should be valid in both.

Transactions like Buys and sells are only valid in the Investment register view, you will not see them when you look at the Bank register view.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/462529002018-10-14T10:34:13Z2018-10-14T10:34:14ZBuy on investment accounts not debiting the bank register

A Buy transaction (differently from a BuyXfr transaction) reduces that cash balance on the account. This should be visible in the Bank register.

tigs99tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/462529002018-10-14T10:42:02Z2018-10-14T10:42:02ZBuy on investment accounts not debiting the bank register

It certainly changes the balance shown at the bottom of the register but there is no transaction when you look at it from the Bank register point of view

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/462529002018-10-14T10:59:36Z2018-10-14T10:59:36ZBuy on investment accounts not debiting the bank register

That’s my point. The sum of the increases and decreases does not add up to the balance. It should. this is because any buy or sell transactions that would impact the balance are missing from the view although taken into account in the balance at the bottom.

They will also be taken into account when any other transaction impacts the balance, so a service charge of £10 can look like it causes a change the balance of £1000's

tigs99tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/462529002018-10-14T20:06:13Z2018-10-14T20:06:13ZBuy on investment accounts not debiting the bank register

The Bank and Investment registers are fundamentally not compatible so it is not possible to format the Investment data in such a way as to make it work in a bank register, each register just shows a partial view of the data. The ability to have the two register types was bought in to allow for those situations where people could do things like write out cheques from a type of investment account.

If you want to show in a bank register the monies coming out to buy securities then I believe you will have the previous approach that was used when Investment accounts dd not have bank registers and that is to have a separate bank account and to use transfers between it and the Investment account to allow for buys/sells/Dividends etc.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/462529002018-10-14T20:54:23Z2018-10-14T20:54:23ZBuy on investment accounts not debiting the bank register

just a user,

I've never found a use for the "bank register" in the investment account. It just seems to be a view of any transactions that move funds to and from your other accounts to the investment account. But that is a bit redundant because the normal investment register will also show that activity along with the security info. I've been happy to ignore the investment bank register for years. Just nothing of value there that I find.

mhoggie
