merging investment entries
I cannot find a way to merge downloaded transactions with those I've already entered manually. The Merge/Confirm panel does not show up in the investment registers. Am I missing something or is this a flaw in MD?

Hi,
Currently merging in investment accounts isn't the same as it is for normal bank accounts, there is an existing suggestion ticket in our ticketing system to give greater merging functions to investment accounts, which I have attached to this thread.

The latest instruction manual is for v2015 but i have downloaded v2017. The instructions for confirming after first download appear to apply to bank accounts only. My major use of MD will be for investment accounts and after I downloaded from my first brokerage account (after importing from Quicken), I have a complete mess. Very disappointing:
1) the confirmation process outlined in the manual is not available in the investment register ,so it's not easy to wade through and no way I see to merge what seem to be duplicate transactions.
2) even more egregious is that I had dozens (maybe hundreds ) of securities to tediously match one by one and the matching process is use-unfriendly. Because securities, especially ETFs, change names when their parent company is sold, there were many downloaded transactions that did not match a name exactly Plus many names are VERY similar. If MD would augment its securities name with the standard SYMBOL, that process would be easier. I'm sure much of my mess is because I had to guess which security match was the correct one.
I didn't think I'd ever think fondly of Quicken in comparison with another investment management program, but my initial experiences with MD is heading me that direction. I hope the new 2019 does not have these same flaws.

I hate to be annoying, but I will be. This topic/request has been open FOR YEARS and upgrade after upgrade goes by with not comment or action on this topic by Infinite Kind. I just don't get it. I like everything else about MoneyDance except this. Can someone from Infinite Kind please please tell your customers why this request hasn't been met yet, and WHEN you will meet it?

I'm in agreement with cookie87. I switched from Quicken and have been generally happy with that decision, but the investment limitations are maddening. Not only is there no matching capability, but the entry options are very limited (no spin-off or split options, etc.) PLEASE Infinite Kind staff -- go run Quicken for a while and see the difference. You are lagging in needed upgrades here.

Continued crickets from IK... Very upsetting. No more paying for upgrades from this customer.

I'm replying just to register my interest in this ticket. Hopefully this can be added soon.
Thanks.

How about it IK? What upgrades can we expect in Investment accounts?

I am also very interested in this ticket as well. A MERGE function for Investment accounts is needed. In the interim, I've been using a work-around posted by mmd in a previous, now closed, discussion of the investment merge issue. It may not work for everyone. Setting up dummy intermediate accounts just to manage duplicate investment transaction downloads is cumbersome at best, and I'm hoping that IK is able to introduce a merge option for investment accounts. I'm all ears if someone else has come up with an even better work-around.

So, for reference of future persons in the same situation, I've gone ahead and created an account of "Asset" type named "Fidelity CMA Receivable." Whenever I have a transaction I want to apply to the Fidelity CMA, I instead label it as going to "Fidelity CMA Receivable" account. Similarly, whenever that transaction is downloaded to my Fidelity CMA account, I label it as coming from "Fidelity CMA Receivable" account. That way, I just have to periodically make sure that the "Fidelity CMA Receivable" account is 0 and this takes care of having duplicate transactions if same transaction (two sides of it) is downloaded both to Fidelity CMA account and to another of my accounts (e.g., bill payment to credit card, overdraft from Fidelity Brokerage, etc.).

For what it’s worth, I’m convinced MD will NEVER address this issue. Makes me sad because I otherwise love MD and don’t ever want to go back to Quicken, but I likely will have to as I don’t want to pay for any more “new” versions of MD that don’t improve on this...

So another year has gone by and still no action or comment at all from IK. Is investment transaction merge on the enhancement list or not? If not, why not? Once again I register my dissatisfaction: I cannot in conscience pay for any more upgrades to your otherwise great software until you add this enhancement.
