Investment Report - Duplicated Account
I have two Easyshare accounts (RP) and (SP) both holding BT shares. I have just run the Investment Performance report and notice the (RP) account is duplicated? The duplicate (RP) account has no shares but I recognise the income entry as a recent dividend? I also notice the value of the account mirrors that of the (SP) account?
I thought perhaps a rogue account had crept into the system but looking under tools/accounts that is clearly not the case.
I am running build 2019.1 (1855).

Hi any thoughts on this please.

Hello Infinite Kind, is anybody there?
3 Posted by rayplayer on Mar 11, 2019 @ 11:23 AM
Hi Infinite Kind, this is very disappointing - not even an acknowledgment.
I have switched to using the Investment Reports Extension where there are no duplicated accounts - which proves there is an issue with Moneydance. However, the Investments Reports Extension is picking up cash balances that differ from the figures I know are correctly reflected in Moneydance – so using the extension does not resolve.
Something is not right - could my file be corrupted and what is the best way to resolve that?
Would appreciate some help please.

Your first thought two investment account with the same name seems the most likely.
In the Investment Performance report double click on the rogue investment accounts Non-ISA BT Easyshare (RP) to open a transaction window. This may give a clue to what’s going on.
Hope this helps.

Hi Derek, thanks for the response and the tip but all it does it open the Non-ISA BT Easyshare (RP) account as you'd expect - proving there is not actually a duplicated account.
I have since concluded this is another 'feature' of MoneyDance reporting which clearly can not be trusted.

I am not having any problems with Investment Performance report running 2019.2(1860).
Are you getting the same duplication in any other reports?
7 Posted by rayplayer on Mar 15, 2019 @ 05:43 PM
If I run the account balances report all seems well - no duplicated accounts or values.
However, if I run the portfolio report there is one entry for the Easyshare Account (RP) which correctly states the number of shares and value, but there is an extra line as well with the shares and value from the (SP) account? Which is clearly wrong.
There is also an entry in the report for the Easyshare Account (SP), which is correctly shown.

Try this.
In the Investment Performance report click EDIT - RESET - NONE, then tick the items to be included in the report.
Hope this helps.

Hi rayplayer.
I have posted a link to this thread on Sean’s (the Moneydance’s software developers) Slack site in the hope he will respond to your issue.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
(I'm just a user),
This won't help you much, but the Investment Perf report is working fine for me... In fact I recently reconciled it back so that I know it's working. So must be a bug, or perhaps there's something 'funny' with your dividend txn..? Out of interest, what happens if you delete the txn and re-run the report? You can then use edit undo to reinstate the txn. Did the duplicate disappear?

Hi Rayplayer,
I'm so sorry that nobody from TIK has responded to your message after such a long time.
In Moneydance every investment account has a reference to securities that are managed within that account. This sounds like the Non-ISA BT Easyshare (RP) account and British Telecom security (or maybe just some of the transactions associated with those) have gotten crossed. That is, there are likely transactions in the Non-ISA BT Easyshare (RP, or maybe SP) that reference the security within another investment account. I know of one third party extension that might have caused this to happen.
It is sometimes possible to manually correct, but the fastest way to resolve it would probably be to do a screen sharing session. If that's ok with you could you let me know what dates and times would work for you as well as your time zone?
Thanks,
Sean

Hi Stuart, if I delete the dividend txn and re-run the report the duplicate disappears - I can't see anything wrong with the txn, but from Sean's comments something has gotten crossed.
Hi Sean, many thanks for your response - I'm in the UK and can do a screen share on Monday (1 April) morning or afternoon if that works for you?
Note that I use the Investment Reports extension, and notice that has no duplicated accounts but it shows negative cash balances which are clearly wrong.

Hi Ray,
OK, let's do a screenshare today then. I'm also in the UK and could do the screenshare this afternoon, so shall we say 1pm? Here's the link to begin the screen sharing session:
https://get.teamviewer.com/tikhelp
If you click that and run the app that auto-downloads then I'll see when you're online and can prompt to begin the connection.
Thanks,
Sean

Hi rayplayer.
Assuming you had a screen session with Sean would be interest to know if there was a solution to your issue and what that solution was.
Thanks

Hi Ray,
OK, I've found the problem and confirmed that it was what we discussed during the screen sharing session. It is easy to correct on your side, so no code changes would help on ours (other than adding detection for situations like this). To fix this, do the following:
1. open your Non-ISA BT Easyshare (RP) account 2. make sure the "Register" tab is selected 3. edit the DivXfr transaction on 2019.02.04 4. while editing that transaction, click the popup arrows in the Security field to select the British Telecommunications security. I know it's already selected, but you'll have to reselect it. This was the problem with the data in the file... this transaction was somehow linked with the British Telecom security in the (SP) account rather than the BT security in the (RP) account.
That should get you back on track and I'll add a check to an upcoming version of MD to auto-correct this kind of situation or at least prevent this from happening again. Do you remember how this transaction was entered in the first place? If it was through an extension then it'd be good to check to see if there is a newer version of the extension available that fixes the problem, or maybe avoid that extension in the future.
Thanks,
Sean

Hi Sean, many thanks - I should have mentioned when we spoke but I won't be able to access my PC to do this until Sunday. I will get back to you then - hope that's ok.

Hi Sean, I have just done as you suggested and it has fixed it, so many thanks.
I've not used an extension to enter transactions in the past so it would have been a manual entry.
Thanks Again

Hi, I'm not sure why but having fixed this issue the Duplicated Account has reappeared. It only came to light as I was investigating anomalies in the reporting - I have tried the same fix that was successful previously but to no avail.
From the above 'there are likely transactions in the Non-ISA BT Easyshare (RP, or maybe SP) that reference the security within another investment account'.
Does anyone know how to identify those transactions and fix?
Regards
Ray

Ok. If you’ve upgraded your MD version to something more recent, you can install / run the toolbox extension, update mode. Currency/security tools. You can try the ‘ FIX - Non-Hierarchical Security Acct Txns’ option.

Hi Stuart, that worked - it scanned and found a 'Must fix txn DIVIDENDXFR'.
Many Thanks
