I am trying to manually enter the sale of a call option. I have entered transactions and entered sell (for action) and a price. I cannot enter the number of options and each time I check save it changes it to a buy and changes the sale price to 100. Is there a way to manually enter a sale?

Your answer was to purchases. I am trying to enter part of a lot that I sold.

Your response shows me how to enter a new buy. It does not answer how to sell part of a lot.

    Hi Peter

Could you be more specific about the problem you are having. Have you tried entering a transaction in the investment register with an action "Sell". If you have and that does not meet your needs could you tell me why not.

I went into the register for my specific account. Under action
I selected: Sell - sell shares
I then went to Security: selected the security I wanted to sell holdings from
then went to Transfer Fee category: selected fee
then went to Shares Price: I entered the price of the security and I highlighting the arrow saw that it was for the security I was selling
I could not enter the number of shares I was selling (in this case call options)
then went to Amount Fee: I entered the net amount received and the commission fee

I went back to the Portfolio View
It showed an adjusted amount reflecting the net cash received.
    HOWEVER
    1) It did not decrease the number of shares held (I had been unable to enter them in the register)
    2) It changed the share price in the register to 100 from 85 in the register
I went back to Securities Detail. It also:
    1) Did not reflect the shares sold (As I said I was unable to enter them anywhere)
    2) It also reflected an incorrect price 100 rather than the 85 I originally entered in the register.
    Thanks
    Peter

I have not been able to reproduce the problem you are describing. Can you show me a screenshot of exactly what you are seeing when you try to enter the number of shares you want to sell. Can you be more specific by what you mean when you say "I could not enter the number of shares I was selling". You should be able to enter the number of shares in the "Shares" field which is above the "price" field and to the left of the "amount" field.

Please can you also verify the version of Moneydance you are running. To do this run Moneydance and from the menu bar select Help->Console Window... Then copy and paste the output of the console window to this discussion.

    Thanks
You solved my problem. It looks like I never went to the field to enter the number of shares. That corrected it for me.
    Thanks again,
    Peter
