Hi

I have noticed that the graph in the securities detail tab of investments always starts from April 2018 even if the first transaction on that security is after that.. can this be changed so it shows the variation from the first date that the security was acquired as the graph as currently exists is way out of sync to be meaningless.. i attach a view to show what i mean

Please accept my sincere apologies for the delay in responding to your query, Michael!

When using the Net Worth graph (from the sidebar or Tools->Graphs and Reports), you can edit the graph by selecting "year to date" or "custom dates", for instance, and "grouped by day". Can you check your settings, as you might have selected "Fiscal Year to date"

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have further questions or need any assistance.

    Hi Maddy

I cant see that this makes a change to the individual graphs shown in the securities detail section of the individual security.. what I would be expecting to see is the start date of an individual graph being the initial purchase date of the security and not a flat line from april 2018 until the date the security was bought and fluctuations after that

    Hi Michael,

The graph in question gathers its data from the *security's History table".

To suppress the volume, you'd need to delete the volume data from the History table.

Going forward, there are free, third-party stock quote importers that either:

    • don't import volume data;

    • allow you to select whether or not the volume data is imported.

Can you check you're running the latest version of the Quotes and Exchange Rates extension? To do this, choose Extensions --> Manage Extensions. The latest version of the extension is v.1024. You should see an 'Update' button if you're using an older version, or remove the extension and re-install.

Can you also check which version and build of Moneydance you are running?
To do this, open Moneydance and select Help --> About Moneydance (or Moneydance --> About Moneydance on a Mac) where the version and build number will be displayed.

Moneydance previously obtained rates using Yahoo, but unfortunately they stopped supporting downloads to third party applications in the last year or so. Since then we've been trying to locate other services we can include, but few are free and reliable. We currently use Alphavantage and IEX Trading.

Alphavantage worked well for some time, but recently changed their services and introduced a premium membership. This has limited the number of downloads per minute for free accounts, so you may find the updates are slower.
We've included IEX trading as another source for updating rates. This website includes a list of eligible symbols IEX trading uses - https://iextrading.com/trading/eligible-symbols/

Recently, a knowledgeable Moneydance customer and developer (Mike Bray) has created a third party extension called 'Quotes Loader'. This extension doesn't adhere to the same limitations as the program and is able to connect with Yahoo. You can find more information about the extension in this thread(the latest free third-party Quote Loader is post 205) from the public discussion board.
Download the PDF attached to post 205 and have a read.

Please keep us posted on your progress, Thank you!

    Hi michael

Perhaps if you posted a screen shot of the price history window that relates to the graph you posted showing the first dated entry, it may be clearer to support what your issue is. Presumable the graph is starting before the first entered price whereas it should start on the date of the oldest price in the table.

    Hope this helps

I am not disputing the issue you have its just a screen shot could help support understand your issue.

When I talk about a screen shot of the associated security price history window, I was thinking of something like the attached that showed the oldest dated price entry in the Security Price History table.

    Hi Michael,

Just checking, is British Pound the base currency in this file? If you have a different base currency, then the graph could be trying to account for price history between GBP and the base currency.

    Thanks,

Hi..Can i say the Quote loader from Mike Bray is excellent and really has made it a lot easier to manage the process of pulling together changes in prices.

I still have the issue of the individual graphs shown in the securities details tab all starting from April 2018 even though securities are actually bought after that date.. there are no history in the security data that goes back to April 2018 unless it is hidden

Did you read the response from Sean the Moneydance software developer and the question he asked?
    https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/investments/4733-sta...

Quote Loader was developed by Mike Bray and hleofxquotes as a joint project. I test and created the PDF and Video.

Glad to hear it works for you.

Just to add that I'm having the same issue! I too use Mike Bray's Quote Loader and am on the same version of MD (1880). It's not a big issue for me but it's odd! My latest purchase was in Nov 2019, but the graph line starts back in March/April 2018. The history list only starts in Nov 2019 with my initial purchase.

All my investments are in GBP. I have a (non-investment) account in Euro and did have some US shares in the past, but other than that, all GBP.

    Alasdair.
