The new Quote Loader
TIK has improved the security on the use of unsigned extensions. This is in build 1899 which is still in preview mode. Once it is released for general use you will see a warning message on the summary screen if you are using unverified extensions. This included all of my extensions. I have worked with TIK to get my extensions verified which includes Quote Loader. These are now available on my repository in https://bitbucket.org/mikerb/moneydance-2019/downloads/.
To verify an extension I have had to make my source code available to TIK. The author of the back end of Quote Loader (hleofxquotes) was not prepared to do this and thus I have redesigned Quote Loader to be standalone. I would like to thank hleofxquotes for his work and help in making Quote Loader an extension of choice.
I have asked TIK to add Quote Loader to the list of available extensions. This is being considered.
DerekKent23 has written/updated a PDF on how to install and set up Quote Loader. This is accompanied by a couple of videos. These assume Quote Loader has been added to the list of available extensions. Before that list is updated please download the file securityquoteload.mxt from my repository (https://bitbucket.org/mikerb/moneydance-2019/downloads/) and add it using the MD Extensions/Manage Extensions/Add from File. The updated PDF will be available shortly.
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON MY WIKI (https://bitbucket.org/mikerb/moneydance-2019/wiki/Home) ABOUT UPGRADING FROM THE OLD VERSION OF QUOTE LOADER. YOU NEED TO REMOVE THE RHUMBA EXTENSION.

Hi Adam
Yes, in the list if you Click Quote Loader wait for the download, then click FINISH and provided you then just close and reopen Moneydance, when you open Quote Loader it should read 3024 and be ready to go.

First issue:
Did the “Update” extension in MD. and then opened QL, did a “get prices” and it didn’t work. Required a close down and reopen of MD for it to work.

Hi Andy
The need to restart Moneydance after updating a build of Quote Loader is Normal.
Its detailed in the PDF
“Quote Loader Extension by Mike Bray V8.1
And in the release note in post 29 in this discussion athttps://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/investments/4914-the-new-quote-loader/page/1#comment_48217287
Once installed re-start Moneydance - installation complete.

Got it. MD should say that when you hit the “install button”. Because it looks like it installs just fine. So maybe a simple change by MD when you hit install on that extension to require a restart.

Hi Andy
Would be a go idea, but I believe it outside of Mike Brays control, hence the emphasise in the update notes and PDF.

Agree, should be Sean.

The requirement to restart is purely a QL requirement not MD so it is
not Sean.

Third-party Quote Loader Extension, Moneydance 2019 & 2020 ONLY.
I am not support staff, just a user.
The latest build 3025 of Quote Loader is a third-party extension that has been reviewed and signed by Infinite Kind (Moneydance).
UPDATE
• Add exchange extension “:LSE” to FT Ticker symbols when London Stock Exchange is selected under Exch Mod.
• Add new feature to retrieve historical data for Security Prices, Cryptocurrency Investment Prices and Market Indices.
• Update PDF “Quote Loader Extension by Mike Bray Moneydance 2019” to V9.0
• Update Quote Loader Short and Full Video Tutorial to V9.0
• Update PDF “Quote Loader Extension, Moneydance 2019 Handling Cryptocurrencies and Market Indices to V4.0”
EXISTING USERS using Quote Loader with a build number lower than 3021 should REMOVE (uninstall) all Extensions under EXTENSIONS – MB EXTENSION INSTALLER, lastly removing (uninstalling) MB EXTENSION INSTALLER itself by using the REMOVE buttons.
The background folder “.rhumba” is redundant, expert user can if they so wish delete the “.rhumba” folder with Moneydance closed. On installing the latest Quote Loader a new replacement folder “.qlmeta” is created. MB Extension Installer is no longer required to install Quote Loader.
As a signed extension Quote Loader can be found under EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSIONS.
Simply click EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSIONS – AVAILABLE tab, find Quote Loader and click install or update.
Once installed re-start Moneydance - installation complete.
Quote Loader was developed and is supported by Mike Bray.
PDF’s and Video by Derek Kent.
The system provides an end to end solution, obtaining quotes from a choice of sources and entering them into the relevant Currency/Security History window, all from a single window within Moneydance. The system can obtain Security Prices, Exchange Rates, Market Indices, Cryptocurrency Rates and prices for Cryptocurrency Investments. The system provides quotes from many stock exchanges, US, Canada, UK, Europe and Australia to name but a few. The process of obtaining quotes from the selected source is fast and error free.
Download the attached PDF, follow the instructions on how to use Quote Loader.
The PDF also contains links to a Quick Start Video Guide, a Short Tutorial Video and a Full Tutorial Video, all on YouTube.
The second PDF covers the creation and importing of Cryptocurrencies and Market Indices into Moneydance.

Hello, I just stumbled across this thread.
I do not have securities but I have a lot of transactions from a multitude of bank accounts in GBP/EUR/USD/AUD/INR. The conversion rates that Moneydance is applying are completely out of whack (please see my post 'crazy exchange rates').
Will this extension retrieve and apply the correct currency conversion rates for both new and previously entered transactions? I'm asking because I don't want to use it and then find that I've created even more chaos in my accounts than they are in already.
Thank you,
Jessica
43 Posted by Mike Bray (Quot... on 16 Jun, 2020 10:51 AM
Hi Jessica
Quote Loader will only download and store the current currency rates.
MD stores all values in the base currency. It then uses the
conversation rate available for the foreign currency and transaction
date to convert it.
It sounds like Quote Loader will not do what you are after. If you use
the Tools/Currencies option you can double click on each currency and
see what rates are stored. You can change these or delete entries. I
suggest you create a copy of your file and open it and play around with
currency rates to see where the issue is.
Regards
Mike Bray

Is there a way to get prices for Bonds aka Fixed Income securities? I am living in the USA and all my holdings are traded in the USA. My portfolio includes a number of Bonds, which Yahoo does not provide prices for, or at least i haven't found them there. Example: AT&T bond having these identifiers: CUSIP 00206RHW5, ISIN US00206RHW51, or SEDOL BK1MHJ2.
I usually do a weekly prices download from Fidelity for my portfolio held at Fidelity and then use Security Price Loader to bring these into MD - works well, but would love to use the new Quote Loader. Thank you, Mike!
46 Posted by dwg on 16 Jun, 2020 11:26 PM
I'm a fellow user.
Quote Loader can only retrieve prices that Yahoo or FT provide. If these services do not have price quotes for a particular security there is no way for Quote Loader to get a price.
47 Posted by Fred on 17 Jun, 2020 01:07 AM
Dear dwg,
I truly do appreciate your valued support to the community.
I am hoping that Mike Bray would comment on this, so please do not pre-empt this issue.
Bonds are Fixed Income Securities, and depending on ones age, a typical portfolio may include this type of Securities (nearer to retirement, the conventional wisdom is to have your investments 50% stocks and 50% bonds).
The fantastic Quote Loader extension does not mention anywhere that it works with stocks and funds “only” , but not with Bonds and I try to reach out to Mike in an attempt to see if he has or is thinking of creating a solution for this. For example, cbonds.com offers an API to retrieve bond data.
Thanks
Fred

Quote Loader is designed to be used world wide (about 800 users at the
last count) and FT and Yahoo cover the majority of securities and
currencies available. Bonds tend to be country specific and I am loathe
to start down the road of country specific sources, though should I have
time on my hands I will look at it. The first enhancement will be
currency rate historical data. I have recentlty added historical data
for equities and funds (Build 3025).
Fred, sorry about that but I suggest you use your current solution.
Regards
Mike
49 Posted by JFG on 17 Jun, 2020 12:50 PM
@Mike Bray - Just an idea... rather than making something country-specific, could you adapt Quote Loader to allow a user-defined URL for where the current value is, plus a regular expression to locate the current value on that page?
For example, if I know the current value for my bond is at "http://www.example.com/mybond.html" and the current value is defined by regular expression "^MyBond current price: \(.*\)$".
That would make Quote Loader phenomenally flexible for all sorts of financial instruments and prices.
Probably a lot of work though... :-)
50 Posted by Mike Bray (Quot... on 17 Jun, 2020 01:37 PM
Each source constructs its pages differently so picking out the price
would be difficult, also you need an expression for the trade date as
well. I think only a few people would be able to do this. It would not
be high on my list of things to do.

From: sprimost
Reading the documentation regarding the feature to retrieve historical
quotes. As I understand it, Quote Loader would/could retrieve previous
prices back to the last "quoted" price. I think that is fantastic! But,
I got to thinking, and wonder if you add a new security, would Quote
Loader retrieve all the prices backwards to the limit of the stock price
source (i.e., Yahoo for 30(?) days? Not getting my hopes up, but that
would be completely awesome!!!
Thanks

Thank you Miike for your feedback and above all for your outstanding work.
There could be a mention in the Quote Loader that it will not load prices for Bonds.
Yes, I’ll continue to use my routine, which is: log in to Fidelity, download my holdings (csv file of current prices and more) in one click, open Security Price Loader extension in MD, navigate to and load the csv file, choose columns for Symbol and Last Price, Load Data. Simple and works well for me.
Could probably be automated, if Security Price Loader would allow in a first step to log into the institution holding my securities (Fidelity in my case), instead of Yahoo a.o. to download the prices, and then proceed as usual. to load the data.
Or, MD does already allow to download transactions from the institutions, could this be expanded to include prices?
Hoping that the Security Price Loader is kept alive !
Regards,
Fred

Hi sprimost
Its possibly better than awesome.
If you add a new security without making a purchase and in Quote Loader tick the INCLUDE ZERO ACCOUNTS box, then if supported, the sources Yahoo HD will retrieve about one years’ worth of data, FT about 28 days.
If you make a purchase the data is retrieved from the last purchase date going forward. If the purchase date is older than one-year Yahoo, 28 days FT, then the data retrieved is limited to these ranges.
In the currency/history window if you CLEAR ALL so there is no last date the maximum historical data will be retrieved.
Have Fun, Stay Safe.
54 Posted by Mike Bray (Quot... on 18 Jun, 2020 07:21 AM
Just to clarify, if you add a new security to need to add it to an
investment account for the INCLUDE ZERO ACCOUNTS to work. So sequence of
events:
1. Add security (Tools/Securities)
2. Run Quote Loader, tick Include Zero Accounts
3.Set price source for new security (FT HD or Yahoo HD)
4.Get Prices
5. Click on new security on th left
6. Save Prices
7. Enter first buy of this security
If you do 7 before 4 then you only get the latest price as 7 adds a
price history for you.

Mike

Hi Dick
Although Mike Bray has written a number of Extensions only Quote Loader can be found under EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSIONS.
Mike other Extensions can be found on his site including Security Price Loader (securitypriceload.mxt) at https://bitbucket.org/mikerb/moneydance-2019/downloads/
Download the file then drag and drop it into the Moneydance side bar, list on the left.
How to use see https://bitbucket.org/mikerb/moneydance-2019/wiki/Security%20Price%...
Hope this helps

Just updated to the new version MD 2020 build 1913. I'm getting three red warnings about Quote Loader, rhumba and MB extension installer not verified and should be considered unsafe ??
60 Posted by dwg on 21 Jun, 2020 10:47 AM
It sounds like you have an older version of Quote Loader installed.
As per the first couple of posts:
"USERS should REMOVE (uninstall) the following extensions: Rhumba, the old Quote Loader and MD Extensions Installer under EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSIONS – INSTALLED tab.
The background folder “.rhumba” is redundant, expert user can if they so wish delete the “.rhumba” folder with Moneydance closed. "
You can then use the Manage Extensions menu item to load the latest version of Quote Loader.
