I own some Media General stock which I've been trying to add to Moneydance to no avail. I've attached a screen grab of what I've done (1581 shares at $15.87 per share), but it still comes up as $0.00. How do I set this up and how do I link it so that it updates the price automatically?

thank you,

Is this an initial holdings entry? The security history window is for adding historical prices.

Go to the register and do a buy transaction for the security at the price you listed. Then from the toolbar select account edit account. In the initial balance filed put in the purchase total to reconcile the cash balance.

In case you haven't already you can download the user guide from here: http://help.infinitekind.com/kb

Chapter seven explains investment account, including how to set up initial balance of the account.

    Tom,

Thank you for responding - But I'm still unclear on what to do (I'm a novice on this). I'm assuming that chapter 7 is the INVESTMENTS section; but I didn't know which section pertained to me ("How do I add Securities to a new Investment account," or "Entering your current holdings.")

One gave me a "From the "securities detail" portion of you investment account choose "add security..." I don't know where the " "securities detail" portion of you investment account" is.

<<Go to the register and do a buy transaction for the security at the price you listed. Then from the toolbar select account edit account. In the initial balance filed put in the purchase total to reconcile the cash balance>>

I have various accounts set up (checking, savings, 401k, etc.), where is the "register?"

Muddling through, I was able to get to a window that somewhat matched in the User Guide - However, there was no place to enter shares. I assumed that when i create the account, I would get some sort of register to Buy the shares, but clicking on the "Media General" name (under the "Stock Prices" heading doesn't lead me to it.

Is there a step-by-step process in English that would walk me through this?

    thank you,

    kurt

An investment Account is akin to having an account with a broker, so it is the top level account that holds everything relating to investing through that broker.

You have to then create your securities, and after this add the securities to the investment account, it is done this way since it is possible that you may have purchased the same security through more than one investment house (broker) this is morel likely if you have invested in mutual funds, for example you may have some through a investment you have purchased directly, then there may be some purchased say through a retirement account.

Look at page 52 for how to set up a security, then pg 53 for adding the security to an investment account.

After this is done you can start your records by adding your existing holdings to the account by using a buy transaction.

The securities detail window is found by clicking on the button labeled like this towards the top of the window when you open up an investment account, the picture is on page 51 of the manual.

I have set up a stock and want to associate it with an Asset account. However, the 'Securities Detail' option does not show up as an option in my Asset account.

I am making an initial setup of the Trial Copy and the User Manual, pg 53, refers to A Securities Detail view that will not com up in my initial Asset Account view.
