It has been my experience that 'Div' transactions utilize the 100 price placeholder.

'DivReinvest' transactions should absolutely use a calculated price based on the amount of the dividend and the number of shares purchased.

Edit: Ah, I see that you're dealing with 0 shares transactions. I don't think the price plays a part in that case.

-Kevin N.tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489321992020-12-27T15:41:47Z2020-12-27T15:42:04ZDivReinvest share zero cost showed 100 and counted as cost in portfolio view

.

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489321992020-12-27T15:42:18Z2020-12-27T15:43:43ZDivReinvest share zero cost showed 100 and counted as cost in portfolio view

What version of MD?
I use DivReinvest (zero shares) all the time and it absolutely works (i.e. it uses the amount you specify to adjust the cost basis).....
See attached screenshots for an example..

Perhaps send a screen shot of your issue?

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489321992020-12-27T16:06:03Z2020-12-27T16:06:06ZDivReinvest share zero cost showed 100 and counted as cost in portfolio view

Thanks for your prompt reply.
I am using the latest version.

I tried to enter a scrip dividend entry, where the shares were added as dividend and the money cost is 0.
I found that in portfolio view the cost was calculated as
(share no. x 100) But in the investment performance view the cost was correctly calculated as 0.

Appreciate all your help. Thanks again.

Yeungqehtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489321992020-12-27T17:08:05Z2020-12-27T17:08:05ZDivReinvest share zero cost showed 100 and counted as cost in portfolio view

Ah, yes I agree. If you use a zero value, it can't cope.... This is a bug/error. (I previously worked with the developer to get zero shares working)... The actual records look correct, but the maths/logic on the various reports and screens are all different... The best workaround is to specify a total value of $0.01 (but this is less than ideal)....

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489321992020-12-28T06:36:50Z2020-12-28T06:36:54ZDivReinvest share zero cost showed 100 and counted as cost in portfolio view

Thanks for confirming. I will do some manual adjustment then.
Hope this can be fixed in next version.

Yeungqehtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489321992020-12-28T06:51:26Z2020-12-28T06:51:26ZDivReinvest share zero cost showed 100 and counted as cost in portfolio view

I'm a fellow user.

I believe the problem comes back to Moneydance not having the actions that are needed. This sounds like a situation that needs the equivalent of the Quicken Actions add/Remove or ShrsIn/ShrsOut.

I'm still not sure how you can get shares received as part of a dividend with no "cost" the two ways I have seen them issued is when the "cash" dividend is used to purchase them or the "Dividend" is paid out of a capital account so it is first a capital return then a purchase. The way this issues is being describes it sounds like it is the second method which point to the lack of a capital return action being the real problem.

dwg
