I have few questions on investment importing, Investment transaction entering,

A. Investment importing-->
A.1 as there are temporary banks accounts happen in the name of "dividend|[bank name]" "capital gain|[bank name], your suggestion is to do batch change but to where? Investment?

A.2 For batch change-->I know how to change from bank to investment. But how to change from investment to bank? Can't find.

B. Investment transaction entering--> would you suggest about meaning of each field?
B.1.Action: what are different among each action, e.g. Transfer / dividend how would they effect to the another side of entry?
B.2.i tried to input and change some of fields, e.g. When I sold a fund, I would like to transfer such sold amount into a bank account, however I couldn't change category from the default "ATM withdrawals" to transfer to XYZ bank? I selected but it went to the default over and over.

    C. Investment pricing: it is strange that MD doesn't catch the latest price by looking on the date of that price. I put pricing directly into the table, it still uses the old pricing.

I am confused as to the description of A. When you are entering or importing dividends or cap gains they should be assigned to the security that provides them. Is this about a subsequent transfer of those funds from the investment account to a bank account? You can use a divxfer transaction (which is basically an function that combines the two transactions) to receive distributed income from a security and transfer it to a bank account.

Batch change for investment transactions are limited intentionally. There are a number of behind the scenes adjustments like cost basis and return that make batch change errors very problematic.

A transfer is moving from one asset class to another. Dividend is income. How they affect the other side of a transaction is dependent o the transaction.

You can go to account edit account to change the default category of an account.
for a transfer the category should be grayed out because you don't assign a category here. You would assign it in the transfer field.

Populating the security price history does n ot change the current price field. If you are manually changing prices you should just edit the current price field. There is also an extension you can download, "security price entry". This would allow you to update manually all your securities from one table. You can get to this by going to extensions > manage extensions. scroll down the list until you see it then click install. After it is installed you can access the extension by gong to extensions > security price entry.

for A, I mean when I tried to move from MS money, I imported investment transactions from each investment accounts and I got temporary bank accounts created as shown in the attached file.
    - Investment Income - Capital Gain[Citibank] etc... I'm not sure what should I do with it. I chose to set the balance as of the MD starting date and ignore historical data of normal income and expenses, but I do need investment transactions as it would effect to my tax computation each year.

I want to confirm that you used the steps in this FAQ for migrating from MS Money:

    http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/importing-data-from-banks-and-other...

Usually the temp bank account are related to the MM accounts for investments. MS Money held the cash balance of the investment account as a separate account. So you have to combine them. I am unsure what these Cap gains and div accounts are for. What I assume is they were the collection of investment distributions that you transferred out to your checking.

I also notice that they seem to all have zero balances. Are there transactions in the registers for these accounts? If so can you provide a screen shot of the register.

Yes, i used the steps as you suggested, but for investing only.
Those accounts are for income from securities selling, dividend income from securities or funds, interest from a saving account. The balance is zero because I moved (batch changes) into investment account. So I do not have any transaction of this register screen.
Hmm, look like I have done correctly? If so, I can delete those accounts without any harms?

If there are no transaction in these accounts you can delete them.

    Thanks,

Then, now I want to manually add a fund by entering the balance to "PVD" account as in the screen. However,
    1. I can't see PVD in the drop down list of Transfer column (while there are PVD on the left hand side menu)
    2. I can't enter number of shares as it appears grey. I input amount and price, but it doesn't calculate for unit that I got.

You are in the PVD account which is why you can't transfer funds into the account.

It seems like you are entering your initial holdings into the account. If this is so then do a "buy" action to purchase the shares at the cost basis. Then from the tool bar select account > edit account. In the edit account window, use the initial balance field to account for the initial cash used for the buys.

In case you haven't already, you can download the user's guide from here:
