download differences

Just wonder what I am doing incorrectly or if I am. Might just be the way that Moneydance does things.

This is Not an Complaint! I want to say I am very happy to have a program that has replaced Quicken and given me an alternative to their forcing me to upgrade annually to versions that I can not trust. I was impressed by the way Ik got the workaround for what Schwab did working to help us.
The thing that I have been unable to figure out is why my downloads for some things like broker fees and foreign taxes & interst come into the program as xfr instead of how I have figured out they need to be classified to work. Like a MisExp or MisInc if it is interest? This is nothing new since the Schwab problem, just the first time I have had to ask. I have to change the type of transaction & associate it with the correct security each time. Then correct the catagory, expense or income. Is there something I need to do so it can remember for the next time it happens for that security? Or should it come in correctly?

Thank you, Roy

    I'm a fellow.

I think it is a bridge too far to expect Moneydance to change transaction type. The action determines what field are available for entry and what fields are mandatory. I can only see the potential for Moneydance to change the action if there is a 1:1 relationship between the fields in both action types. I would still be wary of how the action works, consider a buy and a sale - same fields but totally different result.

What Moneydance can do is "remember" the category used in the past for the same transaction, or remember for a particular description you changed it to read differently.

    Dwg,

I appreciate the response but unfortunatly it is beyond my understanding. I
did not know Moneydance would need to change things from what it gets from
Schwab. Maybe they just do thngs in a different way and why I need to change
the type of action etc.. Small price to pay to what is happening and get
the info downloaded amd keep up to date..

So what I do now if I receive any of these Xfr's in a download is go the my
account on the Schwab web sight and check the history. Then I can find the
correct action and category for each security. Then in Moneydance I change
the action, security and category that matches from my list.

Not clear about the concept of Moneydance remembering things or if it would
    help here.

    Am I doing things correctly?

    Thanks, Roy

I'm aware of users needing to alter downloaded transactions from financial Institutions in the investment space to get the transactions to work as they should, so that is not a great surprise.

To understand what is happening you would need to see the downloaded transaction, what Moneydance is doing with it while having an understanding of the nature of the transaction.

There are plenty of holes in investment handling and I do not think Moneydance always selects the best mapping it could, and at times there is just not a way of handling some transaction types but that is just my opinion.
