The extentension is comprised of two parts.

The first, Quotes and Exchange Rates, is used to set up the securities to be tracked. This extension does not open the window for setting the attributes of the security.

The second, Download Quotes and Update Exchange Rates Now, may no longer be working as well. Not all stocks seem to have consistent stock prices. For example, Starbucks (SBUX), the last three prices were dated 2021-04-07, 2021-03-05 and 2021-12-28. These dates coincide with the dates I traded the stock. Other stocks appear to have more consistent pricing.

Without the first extension opening the attributes of each security can not be checked. Many times the selecting the correct stock exchange solves the problem.

Stephen Georgetag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/491441762021-04-15T12:14:31Z2021-04-15T12:14:31ZQuotes and Exchange Rates Updater extension

Personally, I would dump Q&ER extension and switch to the Quote Loader extn..
I decided to give Quote Loader another try. It appears to working but needs some adjustment. All the symbols need to be changed to fit the source of the download. For example, the Canadian stock CCL industries (CCL.B) needs to have the symbol entered as CCL-B.TO (as entered in Yahoo). American stocks not a problem. Typically Canadian stocks will require the ‘.TO’ added to the symbol.

I will uninstall the Q&ER extension to prevent any conflicts and use the Quote Loader.

Hi Stephen

Glad Quote Loader seems to work for you.

For future reference if the source is set to Yahoo then setting EXCH MOD to Toronto Stock Exchange TSX automatically add .TO to the Ticker Symbol. No need to add .TO when setting up the security.

In the screen shot the the base currency is USD and the security traded in CAD is set as a USD security. Quote Loader does the conversion from CAD to USD using the exchange rate obtained by Quote Loader before saving the Price. I could have set up the security traded in CAD as a CAD Security then the exchange rate obtained by Quote Loader would have been used within Moneydance for conversion.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/491441762021-04-15T16:40:58Z2021-04-15T16:40:59ZQuotes and Exchange Rates Updater extension

Hi Derek,

Thanks again. I am going through the You Tube video now. The first item I learned was the EXCH MOD setting. Currently going through Quote Loader and setting to the correct exchange (using Yahoo) before going back to the video.

After you pointed that out the currency issue I took a look at the prices. My base currency is CAD. Some of my American stocks are set-up as CAD. The US dollar price is being converted to CAD. I will need to correct this and set all US securities as US dollars. A long time ago, each trading account was split it into two account; one for USD and the other for CAD.

Everything is working well. Any securities where I had failed to set the correct currency in Moneydance created a minor issue. After I had made the corrections, the current price in Moneydance would not update. After waiting one or two trading days to pass, the current price would update to the correct price.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Stephen

Glad everything is working well for you.

Your point about “After waiting one or two trading days to pass, the current price would update to the correct price” is probably due to the fact that Quote Loader when set to gather historical data does not overwrite data if it already exists in a Security Price History window. In the future is you have suspect data first do a EXPORT BACKUP. Then in the Security Price History window highlight from the line of suspect dated data including all the line that follow up to and including the latest entry and click REMOVE. Then when you run Yahoo HD or FT HD as the source the missing data will be updated. The PDF outlines limits in obtaining historical data.
