Capital Gains Report - adding adhoc items

I see the Capital Gains Report includes items Bought and Sold from Investment Accounts, but I'm wondering if there is a way to have other Capital Gains items included. For instance, sales of Assets, or collectables or Managed Fund / ETF CG assignments?

I see a previous discussion mentioned assigning to particular categories but

  • I don't have those categories as all my categories are created from my Quicken import and
  • My attempt to add them as described didn't result in those items appearing on the CG report

    I'm a fellow user.

    Not that I know of.

The approach I take is to come at it from the other direction.

I take capital gains/losses and pass entries through the relevant account using categories I have created. So I have categories like, not taxable capital gains, discounted capital gains, indexed capital gains & Other capital gains. I also have a category for Investment reporting for the other side of these transactions so I pass transactions through the accounts with the appropriate capital gains category and the source of the funds being this category so that the account balance is not impacted.

I then can use an Income and Expense report to give me an appropiate report on these.

    Thanks dwg,
That's where I'd got to myself, and then wondered if I was missing a wrinkle.

The inbuilt CG report is just based on bought and sold investments specifically in Investment Accounts so there is no easy way to add other CG events to it.

    Just to add,

It would be difficult for the existing capital gains report to be able to report on anything else in my view, as it stands this report is performing a calculation of sales minus purchases, there is no category reporting capability there. To be able to do both it may have to rewritten to combine the capability of the existing report along with capability in the I & E report.
