One of these investment accounts will download transactions under a duplicate security name. In the investment account it can be seen as two identically named entries in the "securities detail" view, I always change the downloaded transaction to the original security name and delete the duplicate using the securities detail view of that particular investment account. However, when I use the Tools>Securities menu, I continue to see the duplicate. When trying to delete it in that view, Moneydance tells me "Cannot remove currency that is being used", which is US dollar (I've also taken a step to delete all the price history from the duplicate to no avail). And to go a further step down the rabbit hole, I also observe that I have two entries for US dollar in the Tools>Currencies menu.

How to tidy up this small mess?

MacOS 10.14.6, Moneydance 2020.1 (1928)

Charlestag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/494161272021-10-02T05:38:02Z2021-10-02T05:38:02Zduplicate security

It's not clear whether this 'duplicate' security keeps reappearing. If so, you need to resolve the reason first. Normally this is where the CUSIP of the security has been given two names by your bank. Toolbox extension has a feature where you can view your hidden CUSIP settings.. Look here first. Also, if you have Menu/Window/Open Console open whilst you download from bank, then you will also see in the data the CUSIP being sent.

Toolbox can also tell you where a security or currency is being used.

I would certainly start by getting rid of the duplicate currency (after carefully removing etc the txns within it).

Then I would let us know about the CUSIP?

FYI Toolbox has a merge duplicate securities function... Always Backup first.. Ensure you select the security that you need to keep using for download txns as the new master. There are certain rules before Toolbox will match and allow you to proceed, it will tell you about these.. But I would only do this once you have fixed the above first....
