Are the mutual funds private, or standard mutual funds?

If the latter, download the Quote Loader extension - it allows you to update stock and (public) mutual fund prices and put them into MD

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/494727022021-11-04T21:52:23Z2021-11-04T21:52:23Zhow to update investment account balance

I'm a fellow user.

I'll try to give you some ideas for funds that you cannot get pricing data for.

Let me assume you can get the dollar value of the funds when you need them and that is about it.

There are a couple of approaches you can take that come to mind.

You can make entries to the account to reflect the difference in the recorded value and the current value, in and investment account this would be buy and sell transactions but you need to have an account or category to deal with the funds. If you are using an asset account you use deposit/payment amounts again with categories.

The second approach and FWIW this is my favourite is to calculate a price per share and use this in the normal way, just with manually entering it.

What I did with the initial investment I assumed a price of 1.00 per share, so the initial purchase is easy to enter. You have your starting position.

If nothing changes then dividing the value of the investment by the number of shares worked out gives me a new "price" per share that I can enter.

To keep things on track if more funds are placed in the investment I work out the price per share when the funds are going in and get te amount going in divided by this to give me a number of shares being purchased.

The number of shares are thus are just calculated numbers but using those along with my calculated price gives me the right total value with some little rounding errors.

To make it easy I just created a spreadsheet to plug the numbers into (each month in my case) and give me the results I need.

Which way to go depends on the detail you want and how you want to maintain the information.

Others may be offer more suggestions, there is not a perfect way to maintain investment that only have limited data in Moneydance.

dwg
