Handling decrease in stock accounts

Two of my stock holdings show decreases. I can calculate how much each decrease was but I am stumped at entering them in the transaction record. I tried using the Sell feature but the shares number still shows up as an increase. For example the value of one stock decreased by 814 shares owned. When I try to enter the reduction it shows an increase in value of 10K instead of the actual monetary value of 2K decrease. What am I doing wrong?

Can you clarify for me if you mean:

    1) The number of share went down
    or
    2) The value of the held shares went down but the number of shares stayed the same.

    Hi Ben,
In the case of the Vanguard Target Retirement fund the total number of shares was reduced by 814. For the other, a TIAA/CREF account, the value decreased by about $200.

How were the share decreased? Was there a sale of the fund?

How did the TIAA/CREF acount decrease in value, did the share price of the funds go down?

Generally you buy shares of mutual funds at a certain price and the share price goes up or down with the market. You can adjust the curretn price filed to keep the value of your holdings current. From the portfolio view of your investment account click on the fund. This will bring you to the security detail window for this security. Click the history button to bring up the fund price history. Edit the current price field with the new fund price.

For the decrease share count i need to know why the share count went down to advise.

The total number of shares in the Vanguard Target Retirement fund decreased by 814. We didn’t sell them. Not sure why. Have to call them on Monday to inquire. The TIAA/CREF account have a value decrease and yes the share price dropped. So I’ll edit the fund price as you suggested.
    Thanks,
    Mike
