Price entry
I am having difficultly entering the security price in a transaction. This has not been a problem in the past but recently I had to adjust the Fee to end up at the correct Amount. For example, the last two transactions in the account
1. A Buy for 80 shares at a price of 51.7599 and a fee of 6.95. After typing the price, Moneydance adjusts the price to 51.759875.
2. A Sell for 80 sgares at a price of 54.1418 and a feeof 7.05. Once again Moneydance adjusts the price to 54.15175.
Please note
1. My default currency is Canadain dollars
2. The currency of the account is US$
3. The prices and fees entered were in US$
4. I tried editing the prices through the history but did not have any success.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Stephen,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.
Generally, there are two methods for automatically updating security prices.
The extension Quotes and Exchange Rate Updater (you should use Yahoo as the source) and the Quote Loader which uses Yahoo and FT.
You can download and install one or the other extension by navigating to Extensions->Manage Extensions
It might be useful to see post 205 in this thread
Also, you could download the PDF attached to that post and have a read and take a look at the YouTube video to get an overview using the link on page 1 of the PDF.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

I am trying to enter the price of a stock transaction. Moneydance is over-riding my price entry. This results in an incorrect transaction entry and results in an incorrect account balance.
This has nothing to do with the getting quotes.
Thanks

You are implying that Moneydance cannot calculate the numbers correctly however you do not tell us what the actually total value of each transactions is so that we can work the numbers.
Moneydance will apply the formula:
Number of shares X price of shares + Fee = Total transaction value
And adjust to make this hold true.

Hi Stephen
To put the record straight the link Maddy provided for information on Quote Loader is out of date.
The current link to post 51 is https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/investments/7595-quote-loader-version-2/page/2#comment_58379202

I am sure Money dance is calculating the Amount correctly.
For a Buy: (Number of shares) x (Price) + (Fee) = (Amount)
For a Sell: (Number of shares) x (Price) - (Fee) = (Amount)
The resulting (Amount) is then added or subtracted from the (Cash Balance)
Now imagine if I type in $17 for the (Price) but Moneydance decides to enter $18. You will not get the same answer for (Amount).
What I am trying to say; Moneydance is changing the value of my entry. If I type in $15.1418 for (Price), Moneydance will display $15.14175. For a small number of shares the error will likely be lost in lost round-off.
Not sure why Moneydance can not just take and accept the value I have entered as being correct.
Thanks
