Combining two investing accounts or moving securities from one account to another
I'm combining two investing accounts and can't figure out a way to move the shares from one account to another short of "selling" everything and reentering all the information. Is this possible? None of the tools in the register seem to do it.
Thanks!

The Toolbox extension should have an option to do this if you are combining everything from one account into another. Always backup first.

If you install the Toolbox it will install a separate extension that can move all transactions from one investment account to another.
With a program that has it basis in accounting it is not possible to just "move" shares from one account to another, you have to move their value as well and this is not a simple thing to do hence to need to sell at the cost basis move the funds and then to a purchase at the cost basis. An automated way of doing this has not been developed, it can get rather complicated when you are using lot base costing.
Your topic is talking about two discrete things if you are really combining accounts Toolbox can do that for you. If you are talking about moving a security between accounts then it cannot.

Thanks. It's really more combining in this case. I was just looking at a few different ways to come at it.
I will check the toolbox and see how that goes. I downloaded it really quickly and looked but it said there were some errors in my account. I will have to make sure I read it closely before doing anything else.

Well Toolbox will move all transactions from one Investment account to a different investment account.
