License/Registration Number
I am setting up a new laptop and have downloaded Moneydance - I have entered the license number from my current programme on my desktop computer. However, I am told that this license number is invalid. I obtained my license from About Moneydance on my established programme. Please advise me on how I can obtain the correct number.
Thanks
Graham Kerr

Licenses are version specific, so you need to find out what version you are running on the old machine and download and install that version for your license to work. I suspect you have downloaded and installed the latest version.
Previous versions of Moneydance can be downloaded from:

I seem to have 2019.3 Version which isn't shown on the website below - I am trying 2020 ... wish me luck. Would it make sense for me to upgrade to the latest version of MD and be done with it?

2020.2(1929) should work with your current license.
As to upgrading, that of course is up to you. One of the reasons there are so many previous versions is that IK/MD never sunsets software like some other companies do.
OTOH, you do get a significant discount for upgrading, might be worth it every 4-5 years, especially on Macs, as Apple often breaks old software.

If you do want to upgrade, go to
https://infinitekind.com/update
and enter your current license code to get the significant discount.

Licensing wise and technically Moneydance 2020 was a continuation of the 2019 line so you should have no problems in using the 2020 version.

Many thanks for your assistance thus far! I have updated my current MD to
2024 and downloaded 2024 onto my new Laptop. I am trying to find where my
current MD data is stored on my Desktop so that I can copy it onto a USB
stick and then import the data into my Laptop MD programme. Thus far I have
found one file with some badly out of date materiel contained within. Can
you guide me as to how I can find the current data back-up file?

The default file locations are documented in the Knowledge Base article:
