Problem merging downloaded transactions

I have two investment accounts with online access, and I have transferred some cash from one to another.

How can I get properly reconciled transactions? Confirming both transactions want to create two entries each, one in each account. If I delete one of the entries, on subsequent online synchronizations I get the transaction downloaded again.

If you delete new entries, they will get redownloaded - that's how it works.

If you merge the items, then the 'duplicate entry field' is satisfied.

Or, you can delete the original item (maybe copying the memo field over) to achieve the same.

Given the lack of merge functionality in Investment accounts creates problems.

I can think of an approach that may resolve the problem.

I would create a category to act as a funds sink, call it whatever you like.

Then I would download the data for one investment account. Confirm the transaction(s), then edit the transaction in question to change the category to the sink category you set up earlier.

I would then do the same in the other account.

Hopefully what has happened is you only have the one transfer transaction in each account, what should have happened is that the two transactions have been re-pointed so they net each other out in a category.

Yes, the lack of investment merging is problematic.

Thank you both - I'll use this idea of an intermediary account to act as counterparty.
