Ability to merge transactions in investment accounts

I just opened a Cash Management account at Fidelity and I ran in to this problem. When I have duplicate entries I cannot merge the transactions like I can in my bank accounts.

When I researched the knowledge base I see this has been an issue for a long time. So.... I just wanted to add my request to add this feature to MoneyDance. I saw a response from Sean Reilly in 2022 that is was a top priority to add it but it is 2024 and still not here.

    Hi,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

Are the investment transactions you wish to merge within the same account?
If so, you could proceed as follow:

    • Navigate to Extensions->Manage Extensions and install the Toolbox. Launch it and select 'Update mode'

In the MENU: Currency & Security tools tab, choose:
FIX: Detect and merge/fix duplicate Security within same Investment Account

Select->proceed and follow the on-screen instruction.

Finally, restart Moneydance for the changes to be implemented.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

I assume you mean merge as in the same as you do for bank transaction downloads..?

This is still not available... It briefly made it into core code but was reversed as it had issues.

Toolbox will not help you for this...

Stuart, you are correct. I am wanting to be able to merge transactions the same as I do for a bank transaction download. The Toolbox will not help me.

Hopefully they will fix the issues and get it added to an upcoming release.

I apologise for the misunderstanding. It seems that there's an existing ticket in our ticketing system with your suggestion, so I've attached it to this discussion and the developers will be looking into it.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance!

I posted about this back in March via this link but did not get a response from Moneydance staff.

So I will again make a request to the moneydance staff: Could you please let us know if this feature request is something we could expect to see released in the next 6-12 months? Or is it simply way down the priority list of items in the backlog (eg, it's in the backlog, but not being worked on)? Or is there no intention of ever adding the feature?

There have been requests for this feature going back a VERY long time; here's an example from 2016, and another from WAY BACK in 2010 Yes, that last request was from 14 years ago!

It's ok if the developer has no intention of ever adding this feature, but could you please simply let us know if this is the case?

Is Stuart part of IK/MD - no. Nor am I. And the response is ambiguous. But code has been written to do this... it's "problematic" at this time.

I know you want a directed response from IK/MD, but going with your own quote, you will probably get: "thanks for the request, the feature is on our backlog"

The Infinite Kind (Moneydance) has never provided future product plans or any timelines. Those performing testing get an idea when Alpha and Beta versions become available of what is coming in the immediate future and in discussions with the developer of what he is currently looking at, but that can also change depending on events. Development is often quite fluid.

My observations are that the company just does not approach product development with set product plans as you get in large corporations.

For the next stable the direction is in resolving issues. A bit further out we see some effort in having a Windows ARM version of Moneydance and we know that effort is being put into Moneydance on Tablet type devices, as we know the company has acquired both types of devices and there is a test version of Moneydance for Windows ARM available. Their is also some priority into Moneydance+ support at least for the UK.

@DTD: Yes, I saw Stuart's post. And yes, I'm aware that most folks here are simply part of the community, not employees. (If you check my history you'll see I've been posting here since 2009. 😊) And btw, I'm extremely appreciative what what all of you collectively do to support the community.

@DWG: Yes, I'm aware that Infinite Kind, like most software firms, is under no obligation to share their plans with me (or anyone else). But at the same time, they've been taking requests for this feature for over 14 years. At some point, simply as a courtesy to their many loyal customers, I would like them to just say "Sorry, we have no plans to deliver this feature in the foreseeable future" rather than simply repeating again and again that the request is on their backlog.

Per Stuart's note above, perhaps IK are now truly working on implementing this needed functionality. But similarly, as a courtesy to us after 14 years of asking, perhaps we could maybe get just a little more clarity? Pretty Please?

Obviously, we users cannot provide such, other than what we have already posted. Maybe TMI, even then, given our status.

Obviously, I'm not asking any end-users to provide this info. I was hoping that one of the IK employees who have been monitoring this thread might respond. (see Maddy's post #4 above; I also am aware that very very occasionally Sean Reilly will pop into some threads and make a comment.)
