Hi Michael
Yes Quote Loader is working.
Try the extension Quote Loader under EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSION
For information on the features of Quote Loader and how to use see post 112 https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/investments/7595-quo...
Download the PDF’s attached to post 112 and have a read.
To get an overview take a look at the YouTube videos by using the links on page 1 and 2 of the PDF.
The Quick Start Video is intended to give a quick overview so the user can see if Quite loader looks like it could work for them. The Short Video expands the user’s knowledge giving more detail. The Full Video goes even further but may be too wordy for some.
The PDF reinforces what’s leaned in the videos, provides step by step instructions, a must read and provide answers on how to handle less obvious issues some users may come across.
Let us know how you get on or if you need help just post. If any securities return an error then post your base currency, the Ticker, full Security Name and last price you have and its traded currency or just post a screen shot of the Quote Loader windows after you click GET PRICES.
Hope this helps.

What is interesting about quote loader is it makes use of the fact Yahoo
Finance stores the dollar value of my Canadian stock in Canadian dollars,
but does not
use that same value in the account
balance or net worth of my total assets.
It uses the correct value.

Hi Michael
I am not really understanding you last post.
Are you saying there is an issue with Quote Loader or with moneydance itself? If so can you post an example of the issue with screen shots of Quote Loader window after GET PRICES and before SAVE SELECTED LINES, a Currency/Security History window for an example Security and any other screen shots that would help to show the issue. Also what I your Moneydance base currency, Canadian Dollars? If you have securities that are traded in a foreign, non-Moneydance base currency have you followed the process outline on page 8 of my PDF?
With further information I may be able to help.

my base currency is the U.S. dollar, but I found out that Yahoo Finance
reports my single Canadian stock (all others are U.S.) in Canadian dollars.

Hi Michael
So bottom line, Moneydance and Quote Loder are both working correctly and your post was an observation?

Sometimes out of nowhere comes ‘red’ that shouldn’t be there. The fix: go to
Graphs & Reports where you change
the dates to the current date. Then re
run Quote Loader where you Get Prices
and Save Changes on the Perimeter
page.

Hi Michael
I don’t really understand what you are saying. Could you explain further.
Also could you explain further by what you mean by - out of nowhere comes ‘red’ –
I think a screenshot of what you are seeing would help me to understand.

Lately, each time I have an issue, I find a fix that correctly download the
Yahoo
correct info to my computer. But it seems that the fix, although slightly
different, revolves around a constellation of actions like when to turn and
off the
EU Bank Quotes and Exchange Rate
‘rate,’ when to hit the ‘recalculate’ button
in Parameter, when to go to the Securities page to ‘get prices and finally
the real meaning is red in a stock’s
information on a day it drops in share
value. I am getting closer to integrating
everything. Regardless, I always find
one item to change where everything
falls into place and my stock downloads
take place. If a don’t pick the right combination of events to activate or
deactivate, the download doesn’t happen. The right combination seems to
vary from day to day.

Hi Michael
Sorry still not understanding you issue with Quote Loader.
Some of the terms you are mentioning don’t exist in Quote Loader e.g. EU Bank Quotes and Exchange Rate
Are you sure you are running Quote Loader and not Quotes and Exchange Rates Updater.
Again Screen shots as already requested would help.
13 Posted by Michael Collier on 28 Nov, 2024 05:03 PM
Since most MD users do not have any foreign stock, I suspect the EU rate
setting and when to turn it on and off during the same day is the culprit.
On two consecutive days with the same exchange rate their would be no need
to turn off the exchange rate on the
second day, but one would not know,
in advance what that new-day exchange rate will be on the new date.
However, their is a graph of exchange rates in MD; hopefully it will tell
me what the new
exchange rate is and I am assuming it
will not be necessary to modify the
the this graph manually on the new
day. Not knowing the exchange rate
on the new day in advance has the
same fix as knowing it—the graphical
exchange rate.

Hi Michael
If you have Securities traded in a foreign currency, that is not in the Moneydance Base Currency, you need to use Moneydance to update exchange rates in the relevant currency. No need for anything outside Quote Loader to get the job done.
See page 7and 8 of my PDF to see How Quote Loader handles Securities traded in a foreign, non-Moneydance base currency.
Note for Exchange Rates use the source Yahoo HD
Hope this helps

When I tap on Quote Loader, I get that EU Bank or the Alpha thing choice
which you say is part of the old system.
And I can either turn my choice onor off.
Something is amiss.

Hi Michael
I am 100% certain the Extension Quote Loader does not have the selections EU Bank or the Alpha.
However the different completely separate Extension Quotes and Exchange Rates Updater does.
You are getting the two separate extensions mixed up.
Under EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSIONS Remove Quotes and Exchange Rates Updater.
Make Sure the Extension Quote Loader is installed and restart Moneydance.
I have repeatable requested Screenshots of Quote Loader which would have proven which extension you are using, but you have failed to provide then.
Please take a close look at the screen shots of Quote Loader I am now posting.
