Merge Investment Transactions

Merging transactions are a very important process. MoneyDance does this well for financial transactions for many years. However, It has not implemented this feature for Investment transactions.

This is long overdue. I have multiple investment accounts across multiple companies. Moving funds from one to another results in 2 transactions for each account (the sending account and the receiving account). Downloading these transactions results in duplicate transactions which have to be manually managed. There is no merge transactions in MoneyDance for investment downloads. Please put this in as a higher priority request.

This has been asked for by many users (including myself).

As to when it might happen is a guess, as MD doesn't release their priority schedule.

Thanks for the suggestion for improving Moneydance!

There's an existing ticket in our ticketing system with your suggestion, so I've attached it to this discussion.
As this seems to be a very popular request, please stay assured that it is in the priority list.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance!

How do we get the priority of this boosted to the point where it actually gets implemented? Looking at the forum, people have been asking for this literally forever - more that 10 years.
Personally it's the single biggest hole in Moneydance. Every day I have to manually delete duplicates of transfers between my fidelity brokerage accounts and my Fidelity cash management account. The latter is literally a checking account, but, because MoneyDance insists on treating it as an investment account, transaction merges are not possible so the transactions are downloaded again and again until the download window is reached. It's ridiculous.
This flaw is the main reason I would _not_ recommend MoneyDance to anyone else.

There was a point in alpha testing during 2024 where "merge investment transactions" was mentioned as something to try testing. It disappeared quickly, so far not to return, so it must not have been ready for "prime time".

That indicates it is definitely under consideration, but probably required more thought, coding, and testing. It has been 10 months since then, and I'd love to see such a feature as well that would address the points made in this thread.

Moneydance does not release their priority schedule, so one may conjecture only upon what has been seen.

@dan.tappan, yes, I've been asking the same question (see this thread https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/investments/8839-abi...) and it's actually been nearly 15 years that people have been asking for this feature! (see this post from 2010 https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/general-questions/21...)

As I wrote in the other thread, I don't believe the feature will ever be delivered, so I've stopped mentally waiting for it, but I wish that the developers would simply say so rather than keep telling us it's high priority on the backlog.

Jumping in to get updates and to say that until Infinite Kind manages to add this feature, I'm not sure I'll have any reason to pay for the next upgrade cycle. With the feature, it will remain easy to continue paying for upgrades as they arrive.

Same here. I would like to see any updates, this issue is one I am waiting to be remedied.

BTW: I've found a workaround to _one_ of the problems this causes. I had been deleting the extra transaction, which meant that for several days MoneyDance would download the same transaction, and I'd have to keep re-deleting it.
Instead I created a category "Duplicate Transaction"and set the amount to $0. So the download detects that the transaction already exists and doesn't re-download it.
At some point I can back and delete the Duplicate Transactions.
Other issues (like, not automatically clearing clearing confirmed investment transactions) still remain.

    @All

Although we are unable to provide an ETA for its implementation, please stay assured that this feature request is flagged as high priority.
