You don't have any securities in that account.

You have to have a security name listed in the account to buy or sell it,

Otherwise, XFR is the only valid transaction.

So how do I get securities into the account without BUYing them? I have
defined the securities in the Tools/Securities window but could find no
info on designating the account for them.

Select the investment account. click the securities tab. click the actions tab. click add security.

    Just to add...

Any one security can be held in any number of investment accounts so create only one instance of a security.
