Security prices do not update any longer, got error message
I work with Moneydance 2024.4 (5253) on my MacBook Air M2.
Since three days stock prices do not update any longer.
I have re-installed Moneydance and the Updater extension, but this did not solve the problem.
I got an error message, as you can see in the attached screenshot.
I hope you can assist me in find a solution to my problem. Thank you.

We are sorry to hear about the problem you have encountered.
Generally, in order to update security prices, you can use the Quotes and Exchange Rates and use Alpha Vantage as a source.

Hi Maddy,
I have same version 2024.4 (5253) and I use an M2 MacBook Air as well running macOS Sonoma 14.7.4. I receive the same error message as cited by Mario. Exchange rates update, but security prices will not update. I'm doing exactly as advised in your response. Please help.

I'm a fellow customer.
As you have added to this post I assume you are using the Quotes and Exchange Rate (Q & ER) extension.
Yahoo has stopped functioning, hence this source will no longer retrieve prices.
Thus Alpha Vantage is the only one that could potentially work.
With the Quote Loader Extension (QL), I do know that FT as a source does work, as I am using that, and am advised that Alpha Vantage does work there, with a limit of 25 quotes per day on the free plan.
TIK (Moneydance) will have to address any issues with Q & ER.
With QL we have been advised that the author is retiring and will be passing this and his other extensions to TIK, the future of QL is therefore uncertain, many regard it is a superior solution.

Please download and save this file
Then launch Moneydance and navigate to Extensions->Manage Extensions.
In the resulting window at the bottom left, click ‘Add From File’ and install the extension.
The Quotes and Exchange Rates Extension will then be available under the Extensions menu.
Finally, you should set the Stock Exchange to Default
And choose Alphavantage as a source

Hi Maddy,
I followed your instructions, but unfortunately the situation now is even worse.
The update modified stock prices (current and previous!!!) in a completely strange manner:
Eg.: Alphabet $30830.56, Apple $39414.28, Meta $120019.23 etc.
To make things worse also the Stock Performance Reports of previous years were affected!!!
Using back-up files did not solve the problem.
So now, not only I do not have current stock prices updated, but also my reports are completely wrong!!!

The Quotes and Exchange Rates Extension has been updated again, allowing users to utilize AlphaVantage and possibly Yahoo as sources.
You can now install the update (version 1042) by navigating to Extensions -> Manage Extensions.

With update, exchange rates load, but still no luck with getting prices for my mutual funds. This always worked before.

Installed version 1042. Still not working properly, no difference with previous versions.
But, might you tell us why this? What happened to the extension. It was working fine in the past.

Yahoo changed their website, this affected both Q & ER and QL.

Ok. Please. A you install 1046 from the above link. Then go to extensions menu, manage extensions, installed and confirm that 1046 is installed.
Then restart MD
Then open menu help/show console. Click (…) and untick all debugging, except leave QER_DLOG ON
Now try your update prices again.
Screen shot some results.
Then grab help/show console and upload that here.
Same goes for user with the error message. Grab help/show console, upload that here.
