How do you record a sale of shares. Do your do it in Register or Portfolio, and
how should the new transaction show when the proceeds are credited to the main bank account

    Hi Erberhard,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

You have a couple of ways of handling this:

    1. You can use a SellXfr action which records the sale and then transfers the funds to the specified account.

    2. You can firstly enter a Sell transaction to record the sale, this will place the cash in the Investment account.

You then enter a Xfr transaction to transfer the funds to the desired account.
For further details, please refer to this article of the Knowledge Base.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

    Hello Maddy,
Thank you for your response. I have to tell you I made a complete hash of my entries in Moneydance
In Register and Bank Register. The only account with a correct balance is my bank account .In my Summary on the first page my Shares total value is approx. £106982whereas my Barclays Smartmaster Portfolio currently shows £97110.
Could you please explain the basic entries I need to make in Register, Bank Register and Portfolio View.
I am extremely sorry about this , and the Knowledge Base article does not help me.
    Kind regards and thans again.
    Eberhard

You cannot make any entries in the Portfolio view it is a summary page only.

You should not really need to enter any Investment transactions in the Bank Register. This view of the register is primarily intended for those investment accounts that have bank account type capability like the drawing of cheques.

Therefore you would be working in the Investment register only and the article Maddy pointed you at shows the fundamentals of that pretty well.

It is not clear to me where you are having trouble with Investment entries.

The balance you see online is the current Investment value. With Moneydance to get the current Investment value it is necessary to have current investment prices in Moneydance. This is not something that just happens out of the box. To automatically get updated prices for investments it is necessary to use an Extension which does the job for you, either the Quote Loader Extension or the Quotes and Exchange Rates Extension, otherwise unless you update prices manually you only have some historical prices in Moneydance, and these will never match with onlne reports.

    Hi Eberhard

If you want to try letting Quote Loader retrieve prices automatically as dwg suggests try the extension Quote Loader under EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSION

For information on the features of Quote Loader and how to use
    https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/investments/7595-quo...
Download the PDF’s attached to post 220 and have a read.

To get an overview take a look at the YouTube videos by using the links on page 1 and 2 of the PDF.

The Quick Start Video is intended to give a quick overview so the user can see if Quite loader looks like it could work for them. The Short Video expands the user’s knowledge giving more detail. The Full Video goes even further but may be too wordy for some.

The PDF reinforces what’s leaned in the videos, provides step by step instructions, a must read and provide answers on how to handle less obvious issues some users may come across.

Let us know how you get on or if you need help just post. If any securities return an error then post your base currency, the Ticker, full Security Name and last price you have and its traded currency or just post a screen shot of the Quote Loader windows after you click GET PRICES.

    Hope this helps.
