OK, I give up. How do I transfer stocks or mutual funds from one account to another? I select Xfr, and type in the Description but the Security and Shares are dimmed and cannot be selected. Yes, the Register shows investment in the mutual fund in the parent account. I even tried a dozen different securities in the account with no success. I tried SellXfr but that just sells the shares and transfers the money to the new account. It does NOT transfer shares.

You cannot just transfer shares between accounts you have to also transfer the value. Remember Moneydance has an accounting foundation. When you move shares between accounts in the real world it is implied that the history is also moved.

    There are two main ways.

    1. Sell at cost price, move the funds and buy at cost price.

    2. Stuart has a tool, as a part of Toolbox, to move transactions from one Investment Account to another. So you could potentially move all transactions for an identified security between accounts

Thanks. Option 2 had too many conflicts to solve, so Option 1 is what I am TRYING to do. I’m in the new account, and I type B (Buy) for the Action, but MD immediately switches it to Xfr. It won’t let me buy. I tried the pop-up box but it won’t let me select buy. What am I doing wrong?

I tried download (account is linked via Mondydance+) but it says zero transactions, probably because the account assets were created via a TRANSFER. So I’m trying to enter them manually.

Have you associated the security with the new account, By using the Add Security button on the Security Details window?

No. I thought since all the securities were already in the parent account (being split) they would transfer over once I linked with Moneydande+, but they didn’t. ZERO downloads, ingoring over 35 transactions with 35 securities. So I tediously added 35+ securities all over again.

Serious flaws in the downloads for investments. Schwab downloads fail to download bond transactions (securities are fine). Northwestern Mutual fails to download anything.

Really just tried to transfer from parent account to new one, but that just isn’t ea

The security definitions are in their own structure, they contain things like the ticker symbol, price history. When you associate or add them to an investment account what happens is a security sub account (child account) gets created under the investment account to hold the transactions for that security. That is the Parent/Child relationship in an Investment Account and the splits you see on buy/sell transactions are between the Investment account and the security child account.

There is not enough information in a transaction download for Moneydance to be able to associate or create a security in Moneydance.
