Two google securities
In my brokerage account (screenshot attached) - there are two entries for Google stock. They are exactly the same except the one with the bulk of the shares is in capital letters, and the other not. The 1.38 shares is leftover from a merger I think. I wasn't worried about it because QUOTE LOADER has always updated both those googles. However, lately, only the one with 1.38 shares is updating. I would like all the shares in one security and would like that one to update. How can I do this? See screenshot below. Thank you.
Amended: The one with 1.38 shares has a security id, the one that is not updating does not. Should I add the security id to that account?

Hi cdsandler
Stuarts great Extension TOOLBOX can fix most things, including merging duplicate Securities.
Don’t change the Security ID of your duplicate security.
Make sure the Extension Toolbox is installed under Extensions - Manage Extensions.
Extensions - Toolbox – TOOLBOX Options – Update Mode – accept disclaimer – DO BACKUP NOW to create a Moneydance backup.
Then select MENU: Currency & Security tools – FIX: Merge ‘duplicate’ securities (and related investments txns ) into one master security record and tick this box and click PROCEED.
Read and follow the process prompts very carefully. It may ask you to perform extra steps in readiness for the merge to work.
Hope this helps.

unfortunately this did not work. I followed your instructions exactly. It seems it was unable to merge the 2 google accounts because they have different prices - that was the point! One is updating and the other is not. Any other suggestions? I've attached the relevant portion of the report.

Also - one thing I noticed is that QUOTE LOADER is only listing one of the google securities, not both.

Nothing attached. But all you have to do is set the 'current price' to the same value for both (not all prices).. Also, make sure the IDs are different - e.g. Google1 and Google2, and that the ticker, splits, decimal places are the same. Then the merge will allow you to continue.

Thank you - what screen would I use to change the "current price" , splits, etc.? Also I will attempt to attach the screenshot again of the result.

Hi cdsandler
You edit the Current Price for a Security under TOOLS – SECURITY – double click on subject security and edit the Price in the CURRENT PRICE field so that both your Google securities have the same CURRENT PRICE. You do not need to edit the DATED PRICES listed.
This is also the window that allows you to add splits.
Then try TOOLBOX again.
Hope this helps.

Thanks! So about the splits - one of the google accounts has one split on a particular date. The other has no splits. So I should add the same split entry to the one that doesn't have it? (sorry for so many questions - I am not a tech type person)

Correct, the splits must be the same on both.
11 Posted by Stuart Beesley ... on 17 Dec, 2025 07:00 AM
You should make sure the splits are correct on the first and then copy these splits to the second.

That's so weird - I did put my response on this very online page - not in email. And now I see it is not in this text chain at all! Here is the gist. I changed the name of one of the securities to add #1 after it. I changed the current price to be the same, and added the split to the one that didn't have a split. And it still failed! "Cannot be merged as not the same prefix/suffix." Maybe that is because I added #1?
15 Posted by Stuart Beesley ... on 17 Dec, 2025 04:03 PM
No - just edit the security(s) and make the prefix/suffix fields the same - nothing to do with name or ID

Ran the program again after correcting the suffix field. I accepted the disclaimer and went through all the prompts and ended with typing I AGREE into the last dialog box. Then after all that, I get a message with a big red exclamation point saying "user did not accept Disclaimer - no changes made."
But I did accept the disclaimer!!!!!

Hi cdsandler
Did you type IAGREE as one word, no spaces, all in capitals?
Hope this helps.
18 Posted by cdsandler on 17 Dec, 2025 05:27 PM
That was it! I had typed it as 2 words. Fixed it and it worked! Thank you and Stuart Beesley for your patience!
