I have just downloaded and installed the Moneydance app update and the problem of the app shutting down after a short time trying to load is exactly the same as before. I have removed the Moneydance app and redownloaded and installed the app again. After inserting the code in the desktop configuration and clicking ok the app then just shuts down as before!!!!

    A somewhat frustrated user.

    Hi John,
That is frustrating. When you get a chance, can you upload any crash reports generated using the latest version?

Here's a link back to the previous post describing how to find the crash reports: http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/iphone-ipod-touch-and-ipad...

Sorry about this update not fixing the problem.

    Thanks,
    Sean

Like John, my update didn't solve the problem. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app and the latest extension for moneydance. The crash log is attached.

Sean, I was able to now sync with my iPhone and iPad. Thanks for your work. Sorry to hear others still have problems.

    Dear Sean

As requested I append the last 2 crash reports. Hope this will help sort things out.

Just for info I also have an Ipod in addition to the IPhone. I have tried syncing this on another computer with exactly the same result.

    Regards

I think I am having the same problem. I just downloaded the app and extension today. When I launch the app on my device it just sits at a blank screen for a few moments and then exits. The crash file is attached.

When I brought my device and laptop home and tried MD mobile it worked perfectly. I just fired it up at work and it will not sync but it does launch and let me add transactions in the mobile app. There must be something blocked by my company firewall that the MD mobile app needs when it first launches.

    Looks like a great app!

    Hi Mark

It might be that your works wifi router is blocking the bonjour protocol. If you set up an ad-hoc computer to computer wifi network between your computer and you iphone you can take your works wifi router out of the loop completely. Here is a link to instructions on how to do this on vista:

My iPodTouch does not sync either, by any method. The router (Time Capsule) is not blocking Bonjour.

Hi John, yes, I am working on the issue. The crash logs are very helpful, but I've still not yet found the root cause of the crash for everyone. Please let me know if you would be willing to share your Moneydance data file (from the desktop) as I'm unable to reproduce this error with any data file that I have. If you are willing, please email the file via email to [email blocked].

Jean Michel, are you having the crash-on-launch error or is the desktop simply unable to detect the device on the local network? It may help to select the Help->Console Window menu when trying to add the device, as the console window will show any moneydance devices that appear/disappear on the local network. The other obvious things are to make sure your device is connected to the same wifi network as your desktop, and make sure that both the mobile app and the desktop app are running at the same time.

    Thanks,
    Sean

Hi Sean,. The application does not crash, it simply does not sync. Still Moneydance desktop detects the attempted sync as shown by the console
    Starting Moneydance 2010r3 (748)
    Settings Folder: /Users/bismut/.moneydance
    OS: Mac OS X 10.6.3 x86_64
    Java: 1.6.0_17 (Apple Inc.)
    svc added: iPodZephyrin type:mdncsync.tcp.local.
    svc resolved: iPodZephyrin; type:mdncsync.tcp.local.
attempting to sync with iPodZephyrin; URL: http://192.168.0.3:6366
    requested service info

I hope the above can help you finding the source of the problem.

As soon as I renamed my iPhone to lower case with no spaces, MD immediately recognized it and everything synced immediately!

I've now fixed the crash-on-launch-after-successful-sync bug. The error was in the network synchronizer extension that fed the mobile app some badly encoded data if there was an ampersand in certain currency fields (such as suffix/prefix). I've fixed this in the extension and will be pushing an update to the app store that works around the issue. If you were having this problem, here's how to solve it:

    1) Uninstall Moneydance from your device (feel free to give it a 5 star rating :)
    2) Re-install Moneydance on your device from the app store. When launching, it should now show the access key screen.
    3) Start Moneydance on your desktop and update your network synchronizer extension. You can do this by clicking the "check for new updates/extensions" on the home page and then clicking the "Network Synchronizer" link. You can also do this by selecting the Extensions->Add menu, selecting From the Internet and then selecting the Network Synchronizer extension.
    4) In the Network Synchronizer window, remove your old device info by selecting the device on which MD was crashing and click "Forget Device"
    5) Start Moneydance on your mobile device and follow the instructions for syncing

I believe I have also fixed the bug that caused MD to crash on a device with a space in the device name, but will need to do more testing on it before I submit it to the app store.

    Thanks for your patience!

    Sean

I am having the same problem. Once I did the network thing and typed in the key, it synced fine. Now though, I have both the program on my computer and my app on my iphone opened and it doesn't sync. Any advise? Is there a way to manually sync that I'm missing?

I'd like to report that the app is now working fine on my iPod Touch since Sean's latest fix to the extension. I am now a happy camper.

    Shelmellow,

There is no way to manually initiate a sync with the app running. Synchronization is initiated when your start the iPhone app if the desktop app is running and both devices are connected tot eh same local network. Restarting the iPhone app should get the devices to sync.
