Other cloud services now that Dropbox has limits
Now that Dropbox is limiting unpaid accounts to three devices, I'd like to request that the iOS apps support other cloud drive services? Google Drive would be a nice alternative. Paying $16.50/month for 2 users (my wife and myself) will be a non-starter going forward when I have to replace my existing iPhone/iPad/computers.

Hi,
Thank you for contacting us.
I was not able to get a concrete answer from our developers, however I have seen their conversation about adding iCloud.
With the news about Dropbox, I believe the focus will shift to other services.

I don't think iCloud won't work for me since my wife and I want to share one Moneydance file, we don't have the same iCloud account, and iCloud's sharing ability is very limited. If I'm wrong, let me know.

I have additionally added the question of including Google Drive to our developers and will let you now what I find out.
Thank you for your patience with this matter.

Looking forward to other syncing options besides Dropbox. Fingers crossed for iCloud, but OneDrive would work well too.

I would prefer Onedrive since I the PC version of Moneydance too.

I'm a fellow user.
Moneydance and its mobile apps use 5 operating systems. I believe that the best chance of a solution being considered for syncing support is if it supports all of those systems.

Maybe Infinitekind need to establish their own cloud sharing facility.

I also agree that support for at least one alternative is needed now that Dropbox has limits. I would be fine with iCloud or Google Drive, but I can understand why Google Drive may make more sense given its broader OS support.

Another vote for iCloud syncing. I have other Mac, iOS apps that sync using iCloud.

I am not support staff, just a user.
This is from Dropbox
“If you're a Basic user and you linked more than three devices prior to March 2019, all of your previously linked devices remain linked.”
Its not clear if the Dropbox API imbedded in Moneydance used in the sync method Dropbox Connection counts as a device.
An initial thought from Sean Moneydance’s software developer.
“Dropbox limitation, I'm not sure, but I wouldn't expect an app's API connection (such as Moneydance uses) to count towards the device limit.”
You can currently sync computers using Shared Folder, One Drive etc but the Moneydance Mobile app only works with Dropbox.
My setup is 3 computers and one Android phone but don’t have a new mobile device to add to find out what happens.

If Moneydance move to add another syncing method for mobile devices it should have the ability to support iOS and Android. Many users have a mix or Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android.

I found this statement from Dropbox to a question by a Dropbox user.
“It sounds like you're referring to the three device limit for Basic accounts documented here. That limit applies to the devices that can be connected to the Dropbox product itself, via official Dropbox applications, such as the official Dropbox desktop client or mobile applications.
This limit does not apply to third party apps that to connect to Dropbox via the Dropbox API. Users of third-party API apps can connect them to the Dropbox API from as many instances/devices as they want.”
So, it would seem you will still be able to connect as many mobile devices using Moneydance app as you like. If you have 3 or more computers using Dropbox Folder you want lose your existing setup but want be able to add a new computer using Dropbox Folder. But it does look like you can add new computers adding Moneydance’s Dropbox Connection.
Not tested, to prove the above is correct.
Hope this helps.

The Dropbox device limit DOES apply to mobile devices as well as to computers. I have only two computers attached to mine and the rest are mobile devices, and Dropox already sent me a warning that I could not link new devices. The limit does not apply to API connections as far as what they have announced. However, if you are a user with a desktop, laptop, and more than one mobile device (tablet and phone or personal and work phone), then under the new limits you would have to sign up for a paid account. These days, it would not be unusual for someone to have more than 3 devices. If the limit were 5 devices, I don't think there would be as much reaction as there has been.
The Moneydance sync is one of only two applications I use right now that either require (i.e. Moneydance) or recommend Dropbox for their use. Based on their new limits, I want to do anything I can to get away from things requiring me to use Dropbox as opposed to another service. I have been very pleased with Moneydance, having used it since 2011, I just want to have another option for syncing.

Hi Ross,
Do you have the Dropbox App installed on these mobile devices, or just the Moneydance Mobile app (using Dropbox API)?
As far as I understood things, it was only the actual Dropbox App/Client that counted on each device

Hi Ross
Tony understanding was my understanding as well.
Do any of your mobile devices have Dropbox official mobile app installed that could take you to the limit?
If not the statement by Dropbox in post 11 would be misleading.
To view a list of your linked devices from dropbox.com:
Sign in to dropbox.com.
Click your profile picture (or grey circle) in the upper right corner.
Click Settings.
Click the Security tab.
Your linked devices are listed under Devices.
Apps like Moneydance for mobiles using a Dropbox API in them selves should not count. They are listed dropbox.com:
1. Sign in to dropbox.com.
2. Click your profile picture (or grey circle) in the upper right corner.
3. Click Settings.
4. Click the Connected apps tab.
5. Apps connected using API’s should be listed.
or at least that's my understanding.
Just don't disconnect any of you existing devices that exceed the limit of official Dropbox desktop client or mobile applications as you cant add them back.
Have Fun

Hi Ross
Just to add, my mobile device, a Android phone, has never had an official Dropbox app installed, only Moneydance and thus is not listed as a device.
Have Fun

i havent used dropbox since the fiasco 10 years ago. I use pcloud now. I think moneydance needs to divorce themselves of dropbox. support google drive (almost everyone has that), pcloud, or just tap into the api of the app installed in android. I cannot use the android app at all.

The Moneydance product set works across 5 operating systems.
Why should TIK consider ANY system that does not support all of the operating systems it uses and hence ALL of its customers.
