Viewing transactions

I have just purchased Moneydance, as I am moving my pc back to windows from Apple. I have downloaded the mobile app on my phone (still an IPhone at this stage) and exported some of my transactions across from my old Banking Software. However, when I open the moneydance app on mobile and select the account I want to look at, I can’t see any transactions. Why would that be?

    Yes I did that. Still not working. Now strange this is that some accounts that I set up initially are showing on mobile app after syncing however I had deleted those from the actual program on my pc??? In other words, it is not syncing properly.

    It sound like you need to reset syncing.

    On your computer set Don’t Sync as the syncing method.
    On the phone app Disconnect.
    If you have Dropbox Client installed on your computer delete the “.moneydancesync” folder in Dropbox. Otherwise delete this folder by signing into your account online.
    Restart syncing from the start. Computer, Phone.
    Give time between each step for Dropbox to sync.

    Didnt seem to work so I uninstalled the program from pc and deleted app from phone. Deleted file from Dropbox. Then I reinstalled program, came up with my previously created accounts?? Went through the sync process on pc first. Sync with Dropbox was fine. Then reloaded app on phone. Started app, signed into dropbox and app now says 'Waiting for initial sync' Has been showing this for last 20 minutes. Nothing else seems to be happening???

    If you uninstall Moneydance you only uninstall the program itself. It does not remove things like the preference file, data set etc, hence when you reinstalled Moneydance your data set will still opens.

    The sync method I use is Dropbox Folder give that a go assuming it not the one you have tried.

    in any event tryt again
    On your computer set Don’t Sync as the syncing method.
    On the phone app Disconnect.
    Assuming you have Dropbox client installed on your computer in the Dropbox folder delete the folder “.moneydancesync”.
    Wait until Dropbox states it is up to date.
    Start syncing on your computer FILE – SYNCING and use Dropbox Folder as the syncing method.
    Again, wait until Dropbox is up to date.
    Start syncing on your phone. My Android phone syncs within a couple of minutes but for some strange reason I can’t test some iPhone users have reported they had to leave there iPhone overnight to get the initial sync.

    Started syncing on my phone.

    I then got the screen showing: "Select File to Sync' with spinning wheel but nothing more was happening? Left it for a while and it now says 'Last sync: (null)

    Cant seem to get this working.

    Check that your mobile app has access to your Dropbox account.
    On your computer click on Dropbox icon then open dropbox.com. The glob.
    In your online account top right click face symbol then settings.
    Along the top click “Connected Apps” scroll down and see if you get as screen shot.
    If you do it may be worth clicking the X to delete access and go back to and sync you phone from the start.

    Thanks so much for all your help. Don't know what the hell is going on. I tried all that and now back to mobile phone app where it says 'select file to sync' with spinning wheel. Hanging on that. It will not show up any file to sync with.

    If you look in the ".moneydancsync" folder what do yo see another folder? and inside that perhaps some screen shots?

    Right, now it has found the files to sync and shows my accounts, says 'Last sync 06:13' (current time) but when I select one of my accounts, it is black. No transactions show up???

    What did you do to sync your computer to Dropbox?
    Are all the accounts empty of transactions?

    Sync to folder.
    Okay, so I added a couple of transactions to one of my accounts on the pc and that has synced to my app for that account. The other account that showed empty on my phone app was an account I imported a qif file into. The transactions have imported into the account on the pc but do not sync across to the phone app Not sure why that doesn't show up???

    is the account empty on the phone or is it not listed at all?

    On your computer for the subject accounts highlight the account and click ACCOUNT - EDIT ACCOUNT and check the INACTIVE box is not ticked.

    If its not ticked tick it, close window and wait for account name on phone to go.
    The untick INACTIVE and wait for the account to appear on phone.
    Is it still empty?

    Also what's the date of one of transactions that are missing on the phone?

    Last transaction in that account was 04/03/18

    Ticked and unticked. Still empty

    From the sync article

    Your data should populate into the app, showing the last 365 days of transactions within each account.

    This explains it.

    That's it. Just imported another file into a new account and it all shows up. Thank you so much for all your time and patience. You're a legend.

    Now my next challenge is to work out if and how I can import files from accounts in Banktivity (Apple program I used to use) that contain transfers to other accounts, and see if they migrate easily enough.

    I'll search the help files for that.

    Glad I was able to help on syncing.

    Make sure you are using this build https://infinitekind.com/preview
    The new method of importing QIF files is not yet documented.
    Always make a lot of EXPORT BACKUPS in case something goes wrong then you can RESTORE FROM BACKUP.

    It will update the software itself but leave your data set as is.
    You want lose all the work you have already done,
    The software is stored at one location your data set and preferences at another.
    Even if you were to use windows uninstall your data set and preference file would not be removed.

    Ok. Everything updated, synced and working fine. This program does just what I need it to and everything imported into it very easily. Very happy with this. Thanks for all your help.
