After nearly three hours, the sync finished, but the balances weren't correct.
I started Moneydance - except Moneydance would not start. No password prompt - but it was running. I killed the task, tried again - no joy. So I copied my entire .moneydance\Documents directory from last night's backup. Probably didn't need to do that - I just opened the backup file I made this am. Whichever way, it works.
My original mdata-v1 went from 341KB to 184KB due to the sync and wouldn't load.
Not pointing any fingers, because I probably screwed it up. I did abort the first attempt. Anyway, I think I'll let you guys to the beta testing.

PS: for Sean - I saved the console log as it had some really screwy issues, like multiple root accounts. I'll send if your interested.

Dan Ptag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/474889502020-06-21T18:57:02Z2020-06-21T18:57:02ZMoneydance Android beta bugs

It's nice to see some movement on development of the Android App. Testing on Android 10 (Nokia 6.2) I'm finding the update sync is much improved.

I know sync is the primary issue to get right first, but as far as a feature set, I used to use an app called HandyBank (now defunct) that worked with Moneydance via dropbox or wifi sync. I thought that app did a fair job with transaction entry/viewing. I would have liked to see more reporting options, though. Although the app is now long dead, the user guide remains: http://mennesoft.com/handybank/guide/index.html

Arttag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/474889502020-06-23T08:42:07Z2020-06-23T08:42:07ZMoneydance Android beta bugs

I am not support staff, just a user.

Android now beta build 71.
Account Transaction amount corrected.
Account Running total still being truncated on large totals.
Reported to Sean.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/474889502020-06-23T09:48:23Z2020-06-23T09:48:23ZMoneydance Android beta bugs

Further to Derek's post above, yes, account transaction amounts now correct, and the running totals seem to have two (related?) issues.

First, there is truncation of some larger amounts, but as before, there is no consistency. For example I have one running total truncated from 2,066.40 to a display of 2,06... but the running total above it, after the next transaction displays in full as 2,046.94 however, if I rotate the phone to landscape then back to portrait it displays both fully. Then, closing the account page using the back button then reopening it results in the truncations reappearing.

The second thing I've noticed is that with smaller figures, eg amounts in the tens or hundreds of pounds, the running total figure seems not to always be right aligned. Some of them appear slightly to the left of the right edge, as though there is padding or a space after the amount. I just wondered if this might be a clue to the truncating problem?

Many thanks for the work on this, good to see progress on the app.

I am still finding that transactions entered via the app are generating a spurious tax date of 00/00/0000 in the register of the main program.

What has been cured is the previous app behaviour, where the date of an existing transaction, if changed to a different date using the app, placed the original date in the tax date field of the main program. I'm no longer getting this.

Hi RobS

Yes, build 71, I still see 00/00/0000 being enter in the take date on my computer when a transaction is entered on my phone.
Looks like Sean’s focus has turned away from the Android app for the moment.

Hi RobS

I see a new Android build 72.

I think Sean has fixes one of the two issues.

FIXED. On tax date I no longer get 00/00/0000 on my computer after adding a transaction on my phone.

NOT FIXED. Long transaction total in an account are still truncated .

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/474889502020-06-30T08:19:08Z2020-06-30T08:19:08ZMoneydance Android beta bugs

Hi Derek,

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be looking at this later today, hopefully will find similar results.

I'll report back.

Build 72 has resolved the tax date issue.

As you say Derek, the truncation issue on the running total remains.

Billed as sorting the running total truncation, and it has.

All now good, as far as I'm concerned.

Hi RobS

I agree, new Android build 73 seems to have fixed the issue.
Sean now lives in the UK and does some of his best work at weekends.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/474889502020-07-07T14:52:33Z2020-07-07T14:52:33ZMoneydance Android beta bugs

Hi Rob,

Yep, was working that day. I'm an american who lives in the UK (specifically Edinburgh, Scotland). For some reason they don't celebrate the 4th of July as much over here :)

Thanks for the updates.

Anything else in the pipeline you can tell us about?

Thanks to you and Derek for the testing! With this beta the full desktop data set is now synced to and from the Android app, so we're going to be adding a whole bunch of the desktop functionality to the app. I was generally thinking of starting with investment accounts, budgeting, and some simple inline graphs to start, but I welcome any suggestions!

Thanks,
Sean

Sean Reillytag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/474889502020-07-07T15:19:25Z2020-07-07T15:19:25ZMoneydance Android beta bugs

Investment accounts in the Android app would be great. Is there any chance that we could get a widget that allows for quick transaction entry?

jeffcarptag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/474889502020-07-07T15:23:47Z2020-07-07T15:23:47ZMoneydance Android beta bugs

Hi Jeff,

In general widgets are basically big buttons that can show information but not provide much, if any, interactivity. We can definitely add a widget that lets you enter a new transaction. The way it would work is that tapping it would open the app and take you to the new-transaction screen.

Is there any particular information you'd like to see in the widget? I imagine you might not want bank balances right there on your home screen, but list of recent expense categories or a graph of relative spending across categories?

Thanks,
Sean

Sean Reillytag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/474889502020-07-07T15:25:17Z2020-07-07T15:25:17ZMoneydance Android beta bugs

I would also request Loans being added to the Android app. For me personally, that is more important than budgeting. Priorities for my use would be:

1) Transaction entry widget
2) Investments
3) Loans
4) Transaction search

jeffcarptag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/474889502020-07-07T15:32:08Z2020-07-07T15:33:34ZMoneydance Android beta bugs

Hi Sean. I agree that I personally wouldn't display balances in the widget. I liked the way Adarian Money did it.

There was a widget that showed past and today's transaction reminders. Then there was a plus sign in the upper corner of the widget. It did open the new transaction screen, as you mention. It could be behind a PIN or not - user's choice. No biometric in those days.

What made it very quick, is that I don't think that they attempted to do any transaction syncing until after the new transaction was entered when adding them through the widget. In contrast to actually opening the app which does an initial sync.

On the new transaction screen there was also a "save and add more" and "save and close" option.

jeffcarptag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/474889502020-07-07T15:54:57Z2020-07-07T15:54:57ZMoneydance Android beta bugs

I am not support staff, just a user.

Hi jeffcarp
In the Android Beta app within an account there is a “Search Transactions” box at the top of the screen. No global search however.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/474889502020-07-07T16:43:48Z2020-07-07T16:43:48ZMoneydance Android beta bugs

Hi Sean,

My wishlist would be:

Investment accounts (at least the basics, such as seeing transactions and transfers to or from them to other accounts)

Budget bars or basic budget totals, perhaps with customisation such as being able to select between year to date or current year. Hopefully picking up settings from main program (to cater for us Brits who don't necessarliy start their year on 1 January)

Anything else would be a bonus. The above two are not essential but would be very useful.

RobS

RobStag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/474889502020-07-07T16:45:14Z2020-07-07T16:46:13ZMoneydance Android beta bugs

Hi Sean, as for other features now the data is available within the Android beta app my needs are modest, as my Android device is a phone. Thing needed when out and about.

Total of all Investment accounts and individual investment account totals.

Net worth.

You can already set “Include Future Dated Transaction” which I would like to use but don’t as on the screen listing all account’s I prefer to see current balance totals. So, under setting make the type of totals selectable as you do on the desktop side bar.

As for other things I wouldn’t want things to get to cluttered.

If I had and was using a tablet at home alongside my laptop then maybe I would hope for a lot more.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/474889502020-08-10T19:15:09Z2020-08-10T19:15:09ZMoneydance Android beta bugs

Stumbled across this discussion by chance. Moved to first Android phone just recently and using beta version. On occasions, pressing app icon will not open app. Have to restart phone to get it working again???

Love the date selection, much better than iphone app

When entering new transactions and selecting category, is there any way that you can just type the letters for the category and it jumps to category automatically? A real pain having to scroll through the the whole list of categories everytime.

macy517atag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/474889502020-08-10T21:04:32Z2020-08-10T21:04:32ZMoneydance Android beta bugs

macy517a makes a good suggestion regarding category selection. In the app and the program, it would be great to be able to type just enough letters to make a se,ection, and where subcategories involved, the ability to type a colon or similar after the minimum number of characters, e.g.

If I have a category of Spending and a subcategory under it of Booze, it would be great to be able to type something like sp:b and find the category selected.

RobStag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/474889502020-08-10T21:49:02Z2020-08-10T21:49:02ZMoneydance Android beta bugs

Yes, that's a great point. I do plan to make the description/payee and category entry more like the iOS version, which IMO is one of the few things that are better than on the desktop.

Thanks!
