Hi

The Dropbox restrictions are maybe not as bad as they first sounds.

The limit of 3 devices running Dropbox applications with a free account applies to the devices that can be connected to a Dropbox product itself, via official Dropbox applications, such as the official Dropbox desktop client or mobile applications.
If your computer is using Dropbox Folder as a syncing method for Moneydance then as you have to have Dropbox client installed this count towards the limit. However, if you use Dropbox Connection and don’t have Dropbox client installed this does not count towards the limit. This limit does not apply to third party apps that connect to Dropbox via the Dropbox API such as the Moneydance Mobile APP. Your mobile devices would only count towards the limit if you had Dropbox official app installed on your mobile devices for another reason.

If you are only syncing between computers and don’t want to use Dropbox then you can use the Moneydance syncing method Shared Folder. I have tested Google Drive, Box.com and One Drive and with free accounts they all work. As I have no Apple product’s I can’t test iCloud.

Any replacement for Dropbox needs to support Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android, most don’t. In its current form the free Moneydance app for mobile device needs an API provided by the cloud server service, equivalent to the API provided by Dropbox.

Moneydance is working on extending the capabilities of its Mobile Apps. There is an Android beta version that now sync all data to your mobile phone and the user interface face had some small feature adds. I understand once this full data syncing is proven the next stage is to upgrade the user interface to make some if not all of this data available. I have seen no time scale for the project but the current beta is working well on my Android 9 phone. I assume a beta iOS app will be available at some point.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23
