Can't get access code to work

I've just downloaded the iPhone app and have followed instructions for setting up syncing. The Network Sync extension sees my iPod Touch and offers me a place to enter the access key from the iPhone app. This is the key that is presented as a table of three columns and four rows on my iPod Touch screen, four characters per set. I have entered this key across and then down, with spaces and without spaces. I have entered this code down and then across, also with and without spaces. Every time there is a long pause, then a window appears that says it could not recognize the access key and to try it again. I am sure I have entered the correct keystrokes. How can I solve this problem?

Thanks,
Peter Sherman

    Hi Peter,

The access code is a little tricky, and you need to be careful to enter it correctly. you should enter it starting from the top left corner and working left to right, and then top to bottom (just like reading a page). The only characters are A-F and 0 (that's a zero) through 9. So, there are no Letters O or I to confuse with the numbers 0 and 1. Also, don't enter the spaces, and use all capital letters.

If you still have trouble with the code, you can reinstall the app to get a new code. If you enter it carefully, it should accept it.

Thank you for your prompt reply to my question.

I have been very careful when entering the access key to make sure I am entering the key correctly. I downloaded a new copy in order to get a new key, and have had no better luck. As far as following the instructions for adding my iPod Touch using the access key, I believe I am doing everything correctly. If this is not a common problem, there must be something else wrong, but I have no idea what it could be. Both my Mac and my iPod Touch are on the same network. I like Moneydance and would very much like to use it on my iPod Touch. I'm not sure why it should be this difficult.

In all cases where the access key has been refused careful entering of the access key has resolved the issue. If the key is being refused then the two devices are able to communicate with each other. Perhaps having someone else read out the key while you enter it will help avoid any typos.

I have a MacBook Pro and an iPod Touch. They are both connected to the same wireless network in my home. The other programs I use that rely on some form of non-cabled syncing all work fine (e.g., Bento, Reunion). in other words, these two devices are able to communicate with each other and do so regularly.

I have been extraordinarily careful to enter the access key correctly:
    - left to right & top to bottom, as you would if reading a page of text - without any spaces - all caps - no confusion on the 1s & 0s

I do appreciate your attempt to help and the promptness of it, but - trust me - I do not need someone to read me the key out loud in order to get it right. My own eyes tell me that I am correctly entering the key - I have checked & rechecked, downloaded and re-downloaded, checked & re-checked again.

If I am the only one with this problem, then so be it. I will just have to do without the iPod Touch version.

    Thank you,
    Peter Sherman

I am not sure what to tell you. When you register the iPad with the extension entering the key, the extension send what you entered to the iPad and the iPad tells you if it matched or not. if not then you get an error message.

We are working on a new version of the extension that will enable syncing over the internet. With this new version we will be using a password rather than an encryption key. It is less secure and it is more user friendly. We don't yet have a release date fo the new version and we will announce it on our blog when its ready.

You are wrong. There is a problem.

I have entered the correct code NUMEROUS times and it continues to give the the "access key" error. See the attached picture. You will not find a mistake in the key.

Very frustrating first impression. Is this what I'm to expect from your product?

I can see that you are correct, you didn't make any mistakes entering the key. Since the key was rejected, the issue apparently isn't that the devices are not communicating. Whatever the issue is in this situation, it seems to be unique to you two (thus far). We will determine what is happening as soon as we are able.

I very sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you are experiencing not being able to use the app. If we don't solve the issue sooner, it will certainly be solved when we release the new version of the mobile app.

Can someone who is having this problem copy and paste the contents of the console window? Select the Help->Console Window to show error messages which will hopefully be enough to diagnose the problem.

    Thanks,

I also just noticed that your iPhone has an apostrophe in the name. That shouldn't be an issue, but would it be possible to temporarily rename your iPod to something without an apostrophe and then try again? If that is the issue then I'm sure we can solve this pretty easily from our end.

    Thanks,
    Sean

Great! I've created a ticket for this bug so that we can fix it for the next release of the iPod app. Thanks for reporting it, and we'll let you know when we've released an updated version.

    Support,

Just found this thread after a frustrating few days. I've been running the iOS MD app on my iPhone 4 trouble free for months, then this weekend I updated the desktop app and tried to sync my iPhone, nothing... no sync. Shut it all down, tried again, nothing. Uninstalled the iOS app, reinstalled and entered the key so many times I thought I'd go blind - the same access key error every time!

Renamed the device (your suggestion about the apostrophe will be a problem for users as it's Apple's default way of naming) and it went first time. Thanks for the advice, but prepare yourselves for a deluge of comments.

    Hi there,

I'm running MD 2011r2 (803) with network synchronizer v14 under MacOS X.7.2 and MD 1.4 under iOS 5.0.1 (9A405). When I tried to connect both MDs, the computer always tells me access code wrong.

I've double checked the code multiple times and tried both machines with two different Wi-Fi networks. The results are always the same. :(

The console window gave the following information for my last try. Please help!
