Recover via Dropbox
Hello,
My PC running the latest build of MoneyDance 2019.3 (1880) crashed. It was set up with Dropbox Sync and so is my iPhone. Upon reinstalling, the file is not restoring properly via Dropbox Sync. The version on my phone is still correct but attempts at reconnecting with the desktop are not right. Please advise. Thanks!
Kent

Hello Kent,
Can you clarify how you are trying to open this synced data on your system? From what you describe, it sounds like you should follow the instructions at: https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/syncing-and-sharing-data/sync..., starting with the paragraph that begins with "On your second system you should open Moneydance..."
If that is what you are trying, can you explain in a bit more detail about how your attempts to reconnect "are not right"? Is the data that appears incorrect in some way, are you getting an error message, etc?

Hi Ethan,
Unfortunately I do not have a second system. I only had the one PC and my
iPhone synced via Dropbox Sync. I can see the folder
.moneydancesync update with the iphone's data but the pc will not connect
to it. It won't take the encryption connection password and I'm positive
it's the only password I use specifically for this connection. The iPhone
has all the current data, is there a way to reset/recover the connection
password?

Hello Kent,
Unfortunately there's no way to reset the syncing password. We haven't built any 'backdoors' into our encryption.
If it helps, you were asked to set up a separate password when you enabled syncing on your desktop system through File -> Syncing. This wouldn't necessarily be the same password you created for your data file (the password you enter when you launch Moneydance on your desktop system and open your file).
If that doesn't help, is it possible that you have an older backup of your main data file created with this version of Moneydance? Even if the data is out of date, we can possibly use it to figure out your syncing password via the File -> Syncing option.

Hi Ethan,
Thanks for the assistance so far. I was able to find the correct password
so it starts to sync, but then errors with a "sorry, there was a problem
creating the file" Thanks again for your help.

As the data on the mobile device is up-to-date, we can move from there.
Hi Kent,
To connect to one of the sync files that your mobile device is connected to:
You will need to open Moneydance on your computer and click on File > New > Open Synced File, there, select the same sync method as it was originally setup on your computer (Dropbox Connection or Dropbox Folder). You will see a list of data files with the name of your base account, select the same as the one on your mobile device and you will see a prompt for the passphrase (it should match your computer's), wait for the initial sync process to finalize and that will be it.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have further questions or need any assistance.
