Hi,

I originally had Moneydance installed on both my Desktop PC, my laptop and also on my android phone,

Due to syncing my laptop in error i had to restore my file from a back up on my Desktop PC. I didn't like the name of the file so I renamed it.

I uninstalled Moneydance from my laptop but continued using my Android phone to sync. When setting up the new sync with dropbox, it created a new key and it all went well with my mobile phone using that new key.

I have decided to re install Moneydance on my laptop, but when i try and sync it with Dropbox it uses an old key and only finds files on drop box with none of them named the same as the one I use on the Desktop PC.

Can you please help.

Kind regards

Simon Smith

    Hi Simon

When you try to sync your laptop into your existing sync, Desktop to Android are you using FILE – NEW – OPEN SYNCED FILE? What sync method are you using Dropbox Folder or Dropbox Connection? With all the changes you have made can you confirm you Desktop is your primary computer, that is the sync method under FILE – SYNCING can be changed.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

My desktop is the primary and my android phone is the other device I most
    frequently use.

The only sync option I can see on my desktop is either desktop connection
    or shared.

Not sure what it was on my phone now.

    Kind regards

    Hi Simon

Moneydance provides three syncing methods, Dropbox Folder, Dropbox Connection and Shared Folder.

Dropbox Folder only appears as an option if you have installed Dropbox Client in the default location on your computer, that is you can see the Dropbox folder in the default location on your hard drive.

There are no sync method selections on your phone, it’s fixed a Dropbox Connection. Note this does not prevent you from selecting the sync method Dropbox Folder on your computer provided Dropbox Client is installed correctly.

You have indicated that your sync setup is one primary computer and one Android phone and that you have the sync method Dropbox Connection available to you on your computer.

Based on this try the following sync reset process.

To resetting syncing proceed as follows.

    1. In Moneydance do a FILE (MONEYDANCE on Mac) – EXPORT BACKUP in case something goes wrong.

    2. On all your phone in Moneydance under setting disconnect.

    3. In Moneydance on your computer under FILE – SYNCING set SYNC METHOD to DON’T SYNC, then click OK.

    4. Sign into you Dropbox account and move the “.moneydancsync” folder to your computer hard drive to say the document folder so it does not exist in Dropbox.

    5. On your computer under FILE - SYNCING, set your “Encryption Passphrase” and set “Sync Method” to Dropbox Connection.

    6. You should see dialog with “Authorise with Dropbox” button, click on this.

    7. If you are not already logged into your online Dropbox account you will be taken to your login screen. Log in

    8. In you Dropbox account you will see “Moneydance would like access to the files and folders in your Dropbox” click ALLOW.

    9. An alphanumeric code (long code) will appear. Highlight it and Ctrl C to copy it.

    10. Go back to Moneydance and paste ( Ctrl V) the code into the Input Box and click OK and OK again.

    11. Wait for Dropbox folder “.moneydancesync” and its contents to be created in your online account. This can take some time.

    12. Start the Moneydance app on your phone. You may be asked to sign in to your Dropbox account to allow Moneydance to access Dropbox if this is the first time the device has done this. The mobile app will search for your data set to sync. On the completion of the search, you should see your current data set listed. Select this to sync. You will then be asked to enter you Encryption Password, the passphrase you entered on your computer FILE – SYNCING. After you have entered the password click BEGIN SYNCING. The initial sync can take a long time.

When you are completely happy you can delete the “.moneydancesync” folder you moved to your hard drive.

    Hope this helps.
