Android app no longer working
When I attempt to open the app the window flashes for a second and disappears. The app icon is different also, it looks like the Android icon instead of the Moneydance icon. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and the icon still looks like the Android icon. After the reinstall, I am presented with the option to sync with Dropbox, but sync fails. I have Moneydance on an iPhone also, and that is syncing just fine.

Hi Herb
There is an Android beta build that may work better with newer Android phones. Note you must be running at least Android 7.1.1.
To install:
1. Use the Play Store app to find Moneydance.
2. Click on the Moneydance icon to show the description of Moneydance.
3. Scroll to the very bottom of the description and you should see
Join the beta
Try new features before they’re
officially released and give your
feedback to the developer.
Join Learn more
4. Click on Join and in the window that appears click JOIN.
5. The screen now reads
Joining beta...
Adding your account to the
Program. It may take a few minutes.
6. Wait 60 seconds, then use the back key and click on the Moneydance icon again.
7. The heading should now read Moneydance (Beta). Assuming it does click Install. If it does not go back to step 6.
8. Once installed, start Moneydance app.
9. The initial sync may take some time and the balances listed on the account page may be all zeros. Close the App and also the its background instance and then open the app again, balances should be OK from then on.
The reason the initial sync takes a long time is unlike the current version the beta is syncing all Moneydance data as a prelude to expanding the mobile apps functions in a later build.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for the response derekkent23. I am running the beta version, and it appears it was updated some time yesterday. The first thing I noticed before trying to run it was that the icon had changed since the last time I ran it. I checked updates, and saw that it had been updated.

Hi hmrice
You are correct, just checked and it was updated on the 15 January, but it still syncs for me. The icon has changed.
Disconnected and reconnected. It takes a long time to complete the initial sync as all data is synced in the beta, but for me it gets there. Phone Samsung Galaxy A40 Android 10.
However, the new feature, TAP TO SHOW Sync Passphrase is floored as all charters are shown as upper case even when some are lower case. Reported to Sean the software developer.
Don't know why sync fails for you. if you cant get it to sync I will post a link to your discussion in the hope Sean takes a look. Post your phone type and Android software version.

Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge
Android 6.0.1
Admittedly, it is an old phone and OS, but it had been working well until I tried it today. I was planning to replace my main iPhone 6 Plus that is getting old and slow, but can’t afford another iPhone. I was checking my must-have apps on my old Android phone to be sure they exist and work before investing in an Android phone.
I was a little suspicious that something was wrong when I saw the app icon. Did it change to icon in the attached file?

Thank you again derekkent23 for taking the time to respond. It still won't sync, and fails immediately when I press the sync button.

Hi hmrice
When the Android beta was first released Sean told me don’t expect it to work on phones running earlier than Android 7.1.1. It certainly did not work on my old LG with Android 6.0.1 so surprised it worked on your Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge Android 6.0.1
Part of the release notes for the 15 Jan beta reads “Increase compatibility for older devices”, perhaps the opposite has happened.
My LG is running the non beta release, but as a test I tried the beta. I got as far as clicking BEGIN SYNCING but get Syncing Failed but not rely surprised. For my LG I will need to go back to non beta. Have you tried that?

Hi hmrice
Just to confirm when I went back to non beta my LG on Android 6.0.1 worked again.
Hope this helps

Hi derekkent23,
That's interesting. I thought I was already running the beta version. I originally installed Moneydance a few months ago, and joined the beta program. I thought I installed the beta version shortly after, but I guess not. It must have not gotten installed until the update was released on the 15th. I will leave the beta program and install the non-beta version for now. I really only wanted to be sure Moneydance was available for Android before I replace my iPhone with an Android phone. I've been considering a new LG Stylo 6.

Hi hmrice
Your phone only really updating to the beta build when a new beta build was released on the 15 Jan seems plausible.
As for will the beta build work on a LG Stylo 6 then all I can say if it runs Android 10 then as my Samsung Galaxy A40 Android 10 works, it should to.
Hope this helps

Hi derekkent23,
The Stylo 6 does run Android 10. I'm going to assume that it will be fine. In any event, even if the non-beta version works, it's fine with me.
Thanks again for taking the time to help.

Hi hmrice
You will find the user interface on beta looks a lot better.
