Syncing problem
Hi, I'm assisting a friend with his Moneydance software, he is running Mac 2019 versión and he needs to start using it on a second Mac.
We Downloaded de 2021 versión but it didn't activated with his current license code, so we switched to 2017 version and managed to activate it correctly.
After a correct initial sync (Dropbox connection) the new transactions generated on each Mac won't transfer to the other.
What are we doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.
Regards

Hi Roland,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.
Firstly, you should ensure you're running the same version and build of Moneydance on both computers.
If his license key was purchased for use with Moneydance 2017, it will also work with Moneydance 2020. If so, I would recommend downloading and installing Moneydance 2020.2 (1929) on both computers - please check the system requirements beforehand.
Secondly, ensure the data file is stored in the default location.
Then, launch Moneydance to access the file you'd like to share. Choose File --> Syncing. In this window you should pick a sync method.
If you have the Dropbox client installed on your computer (in the default location) you'll see the 'Dropbox Folder' sync method.
With "Dropbox Folder" Moneydance will just read and write files to your Dropbox folder on your computer, which means that you need to have Dropbox installed and running, but you don't need to be online in order for Moneydance to read and write the changes. ( I would recommend using this)
If you choose the 'Dropbox Connection' sync method, you'll be prompted to visit the Dropbox site and retrieve an authorisation code that you can enter into Moneydance.
With "Dropbox Connection" Moneydance uses the Dropbox API to talk to the Dropbox service directly. So, you don't need to have Dropbox actually installed on your computer, but you do need to be online when Moneydance is running in order for changes to be synced.
You should also create and enter a syncing encryption password, if you haven't already. Alternatively, you can navigate to File->Syncing->Show Passphrase to reveal an existing one.
On the other computer, open Moneydance and choose File --> New (or 'Create a new account set' from the Welcome window). Select 'Open Synced File'. Choose the same sync method as the original computer and authorise as required. Select your data file, and enter the sync encryption password to match the original computer.
By following these steps, each computer will have it's own copy of your data file, and also backup files. Any changes are shared with the other computer using the sync files within the shared folder you picked. If you enter a test transaction on either computer, you'll see it appear on the other after a few moments.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.
