Hi
I wonder if you can help. I am very impressed with money dance, I was so impressed that I recommended my sister use the application as well. She is a busy doctor and has run into a problem with synchronisation.

It looks like her phone stop synchronising with her laptop about September time. She has a lot of transactions recorded onto the phone that have not transferred to the application on her Mac. She has the latest version of the money dance software on her phone and also on her laptop. Her phone is running iOS 15.1, has laptop is running macOS 10.1 4.6, and she is synchronising using shared folder on dropbox.

To try and help you out, I have had a look at her system, I can’t get it to synchronise either. This happens even if I change the synchronisation method.

Have you any ideas that could help? She is obviously keen not to have to re-enter the whole load of the transactions.

    Hi Jeremy,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

From the computer: Launch Moneydance and navigate to File->Syncing.
Choose Don't Sync and close Moneydance.

Launch Moneydance again (on your computer) and navigate to File->New->Open synced file
Enter your Password to match the Passphrase on your phone.

Finally, enter a "dummy"" transaction on each device and allow a few seconds for them to sync. They should display exactly the same transactions.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

    Thank you for that
I went through this with my sister today, and we got the following results:

    test 1
Disable synchronisation / restart moneydance / Open a new file"Shared folder” option
Result: database on desktop from previous Desktop file intact, no data on laptop from mobile device, dummy transaction fails to synchronise either way

    test 2
Disable synchronisation / restart moneydance / Open a new file”dropbox connectionr” option
Result: database on desktop from previous Desktop file missing November transactions, no data on laptop from mobile device, dummy transaction fails to synchronise either way

    test 3
Disable synchronisation / restart moneydance / Open a new file”dropbox folder” option
Result: no data from previous desktop file, no data on laptop from mobile device, dummy transaction fails to synchronise either way

Your previous mail was a reaaly good suggesion do you have any further advice?

    Jeremy

As the data on the mobile device is up-to-date, to connect to one of the sync files that your mobile device is connected to we would have to reverse the procedure (this is why your attempts weren't successful):

You will need to open Moneydance on your computer and click on File > New > Open Synced File, there select the same sync method as it was originally setup on your computer (Dropbox Connection or Dropbox Folder). You will see a list of data files with the name of your base account, select the same as the one on your mobile device and you will see a prompt for the passphrase (it should match your computer's), wait for the initial sync process to finalize and that will be it.
