Are you adding the new laptop to an existing syncing setup or are you doing a setup from scratch?

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/494730182021-11-05T15:17:47Z2021-11-05T15:17:48ZAdding MoneyDance to a 2nd home computer

I am using an existing syncing setup and want to have the file synced on
both computers as well as my mobile devices. It is working fine on my
mobile devices. Just need it to sync on both the laptops. Thanks!

Jared Gleuetag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/494730182021-11-05T16:02:40Z2021-11-05T16:02:40ZAdding MoneyDance to a 2nd home computer

Hi Jared,

From your new computed you could simply navigate to File->New->Open Synced File
Choose the same sync method as the one you have used when you set up sync initially.
Click "Next" and choose the same file the other devices are connected to.
Finally enter the same passphrase and that should be it.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

One thing we have seen on occasions is that if there is an exiting syncing setup that has been in place for quite a while and you try to add another computer to the setup it can choke. The problem seems to be the sheer number of files in the shared location, well that is my feeling in any case.

The shared location is not "owned" by any system so files in it are never consolidated, hence it can potentially contain tens of thousands of files.

If it is suspected that this is the problem then the official solution is to take the system back to being a standalone system i.e. based on your original laptop and build the syncing relationship again.

What may work is to delete the data in the shared folder on dropbox and let it repopulate from the original notebook and then try the setup on the new machine again, you would of course take a backup of the data on the original laptop before you start.

Why this may work is that Moneydance on the Laptop would have been performing maintenance tasks and consolidating the date their over time.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/494730182021-11-05T20:09:09Z2021-11-05T20:09:09ZAdding MoneyDance to a 2nd home computer

Another option. (This automates dwg’s suggestion above). On the primary. Backup first. Load toolbox extension. Hacker mode. Force a reset/push of your dataset to Sync. Wait a few mins. This will reset and update sync with a new consolidated dataset. You can watch console to see it pushing the dataset ‘trunk’.

Then later on the second computer. File, new, open sync’d copy. See if it’s quicker.

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)
