I have just purchased a new MacBook Pro with the M1 chip I had to instal a programme too allow Moneydancxe to work with the new computer. All seems fine except it does not appear to sync wirth my moneybox folder. The settings for sync are the same as before as is the passcode.

    Hi Roger,

We are sorry to hear about the problem you have encountered.

Which version and build of Moneydance are you using?
To check, open Moneydance and select Moneydance --> About Moneydance

If you are syncing your data with a mobile device, or another system - you should NOT move your data file to a shared folder location, like Dropbox. The file should remain on your local system if your data is being synced or shared as outlined here.

Generally, to reset sync you should navigate to File->Syncing and turn Sync off everywhere by choosing Don't Sync
    Close Moneydance
Launch Moneydance again and take a manual back up of the file you consider to be the most up-to date

On the computer where this file is stored:

    • Navigate to Extensions->Manage Extensions and install the **Toolbox
    • From from Toolbox Options (on top left corner)choose Advanced Mode.
    • Make Primary if not Primary already.
    • Load the Toolbox extension and choose Hacker mode from Toolbox Options (on top left corner).
    • Choose the option Hack: Force a reset/push of your dataset to Sync. Wait a few mins. This will reset and update sync with a new consolidated dataset.

    Finally,
On the primary computer navigate to File->Syncing and choose a sync method.
    Preferably, Dropbox Folder (it's faster!)
    - Set or take note of your existing "Passphrase".

    On the secondary computer

    Navigate to File->New->Open synced file.
    - Choose the same sync method as the primary computer - Enter the same Passphrase to match

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

Thank you, Maddy. My Moneydance is ver 2020 1 (1928).
I tried stopping sync on my iPhone then restarting it. The files all re-populated but not with the most up to date data so it looks as if it is the MacBook at fault by not syncing with Dropbox. I have tried the same (stopping then restarting sync) with the computer but with no change.

I can’t find Toolbox in ‘manage extensions’.

Sorry, you need to be on at least 2021.1 build 3056 for Toolbox to run as an extension.

Thank you all. I updated my Moneydance and used Toolbox. It was quite worrying with all the explicit warnings but it ended up with my having to log in to dropbox again and now all is working properly.

Thank you for your professional help

Perhaps I’m over zealous with my warnings, but it’s really quite safe. The main thing is to always backup first.

    Toolbox 🧰 +1 😃
